I split my time between Pinnacle/Chandler and Sabino/Chaparral. Both semi-final games were scheduled at the same time so I spent 1 half in 1 game and the other in the other.
Going into the game I was very interested in the matchup between Kennedy Basham (6’6) and Mya Peat (6’5). Both girls have great height but very different games. Basham being very thin and more finesse. Peat being very strong and wide.
At first, it seemed like Peat was going to dominate the match up as she continuously put pressure on Basham with her physicality. However, Basham won the battle of the bigs.
Pinnacle would give Basham the ball on the wing or mid-range and Basham proved to be too fast for Peat to keep up with, especially as the game went on and girls were getting more and more tired.
I felt that Stedman had an unusually slow game. I’ve seen her produce more on countless occasions. Everyone has a bad showing but she’ll be back strong.
Chandler came out of the half and took a very commanding lead and eventually won between 12-15 points, securing their spot in the championship vs 3A Powerhouse, Sabino.
A large part of their success was their guard play. Victoria Mason and Mykah Anderson are more of scoring guards while Victoria Perez is a high IQ/playmaking guard. The trio turn in a lot of points and prove to be a big challenge for opposing teams to stop.
