At 5’9, Suttington takes pride in her ability to play all five positions. She can score from all over the court, handle the ball, shows good court vision and brings an aggressive style of play, able to play through contact and handle pressure. A year ago she averaged 24 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5.5 steals per game while shooting 80 percent from the free throw line.
“Things ended okay not the best, I don’t feel pleased with how I ended my season I wish I could’ve finished without any injuries occurring, I believe there would have been a better outcome,” she said.
Suttington played in just one AAU tournament last summer at the Run for Roses and has played in just a handful of AAU events throughout her high school career.
“I I believe if I could have got the chance to play at all it would have opened more eyes and it would have put me in a more successful position than what I am in now,” she said.
Suttington says expectations are high this season for Schlagle and is looking forward to several contests.
“This upcoming season I expect nothing but good to come, I know what needs to be brought to the table this year,” she says. “We have some great matchups this year our very first game being against Topeka high school.”
Suttington says Schlagle standout Jaylin Richardson, who has committed to play football at Kansas, has had a big impact on her basketball career.
“(Richardson) has been a huge influence on my basketball career, outside of our relationship, he has helped develop my game all around, from working out every day and night, sharpening my skills, attitude, fundamentals,” she says. “He has helped me gain that confidence in believing that I am “untouchable” and worthy of what I stand for.”
A fan of Lebron James, Suttington says she does not watch much women’s college or professional Basketball.
“I love to watch Lebron play I steal little small details from him and perfect them in my game I take the things he does well against grown men and use it against high school players which is speed and strength,” she said.”I have learned to use my body the way he has which has helped me all around.”
Suttington recently signed to play at Hutchinson Community College, choosing the school over Johnson County Community College, Garden City Community College, Labette Community College, and Kaskaskia Community College.
