At 5’5, Althouse is a smart and tough point guard who brings a high basketball IQ to the floor. She says the expectations are high this season at SM East after a strong season in 2018-19.
“ We had a much improved record from the year before, and I think we surprised some people,” she said. “I felt good about the season, but there is always room for improvement.
“I have high expectations for our team this season. We have 4 returning starters as well as some new talent coming in. The sunflower league is loaded so every night is a big matchup, but Shawnee mission south is always a fun rivalry game for us.”
Althouse says competing with Next Level Eclipse at several tournaments across the midwest from Indiana to Chicago helped her prepare for the upcoming season.
“Summer basketball helped me for this season by showing me what I needed to work on to up my game for this high school season,” she said.
Althouse says her parents have had the biggest influence on her basketball career to date.
“They have always been my No. 1 supporters always allowed me to follow my heart,” she said.
A fan of both men’s and women’s college basketball, Althouse says one of her favorite players in Frank Mason.
“When he was at KU, he always stepped up big and played bigger than his size,” she said.
Althouse has heard from several college college programs, including NCAA Division II schools in the GLVC and the MIAA as well as a few others.
