Continue ReadingIn today’s first action, I checked out Sabino v Chaparral. I anticipated a very close matchup as both teams have some great college prospects! I split my time between Pinnacle/Chandler and Sabino/Chaparral. Both semi-final games were scheduled at the same time so I spent 1 half in 1 game and the other in the other.
Sabino eventually won the game and looked solid overall.
Kam Doty and Kam Rhodes played really strong, matching the strength of Chaparral’s amazing backcourt. Both of them did a really good job of trying to maintain Anna Ostlie and Jess Finney. As you’ll read later in the article, Ostlie got hit in the first half but slowed down in second. Finney unfortunately continued her struggles and I think that was in large part to the defense of the Kam’s.
Dorroh and Healy held it down in the front court and came up with a lot of steals in that Sabino press. Dorroh led the way in scoring for Sabino, with 16 total points.
Sabino’s press looked to be a problem for everyone they played this week as it is very disruptive and causes a lot of TO’s.
Leading the way for Chaparral was Anna Ostlie.
Ostlie hit 3-4 3’s in the first half and 1 more in the second. Unfortunately, her production slowed down on the second half as she picked up 4 fouls pretty early on. Ostlie picked up her 5th foul early in the fourth and it nearly sealed the victory for Sabino. To make matters worse, once Ostlie fouled out, Chaparral head coach received a technical. This moment heavily put the momentum in Sabino’s favor and they capitalized.
