How it all shook out in ’18-19
Last year’s Confluence title was a close race between Eagle Ridge Academy and Strive Prep – Smart Academy. It came down to a head-to-head matchup between the two late in the season and it was Eagle Ridge that prevailed, 47-32, to finished the regular season with a perfect 6-0 conference record.
Which playoff team advanced the farthest?
In 2018-19, it was league champion Eagle Ridge that went on to win a district championship and qualify for the 3A state tournament. At state, the Warriors lost in the first round to No. 2 seed and eventual runner-up Colorado Springs Christian School.
A few returning players to watch
Madison Bogue, 2021, 5-1, G, Strive Prep – Smart Academy
The league’s leading scorer a year ago, Bogue had a number of big games last season including a 29-point outburst against DSST: Byers in the season opener. She averaged 13.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 4.5 steals.
Cydnee Collins, 2020, 5-8, PG/PF, Eagle Ridge
Collins was played a critical role in leading the Warriors to a league championship last season, averaging 13.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. She returns to the team as a senior this season and ready to lead a strong core of 2020’s that includes Jackie Alvarez-Gordillo, Olivia Mendoza and Jazz Scott.
Aliyah Montez, 2020, 5-1, G, DSST: College View
The top returning scorer for the Wolves, Montez was a spark plug for the team last season. She averaged 9.9 points and will have to step up this season to make up for the Wolves graduating several key seniors from last year’s roster.
A quick, early look to ’19-20
There’s a pretty good chance that this upcoming season will play out as tightly as last year in terms of the league title race. But there’s reason to believe the result will be similar since defending champion Eagle Ridge returns so much of the same talented group that won the conference in ’18-19.
