Seniors Ready to Breakout
The season is only a few weeks away. Seniors are signing their letters of intent all over the state. We know all the big names in the 2020 class but who are some players who could break out in their Senior years? Here are some educated guesses.
Paige Vanzant, Logan County – Coming off a Junior season where she averaged 12.5 points per game, Vanzant is ready for a big Senior season. Paige becomes the go-to scorer and leader for the Cougars this year and is going to be among the top players in the 4th region.
Gracie Jervis Gracie Jervis 5'7" | SG North Laurel | 2020 State KY , North Laurel – Jervis was an impressive performer at the Elite 80 combine a couple months back and returns to lead the Lady Jags this year. After leading the team in scoring last season, Gracie should improve her numbers if she keeps shooting as well as she did in her Junior year when she put up shooting splits of 52/48/80.
Shyiann Elkins, Russell County – The stats don’t jump off the page for Elkins but that’s part of being a breakout candidate. Shyiann is the floor general for the Lady Lakers and should see an increase in her scoring numbers but plays a bigger role as a facilitator and leader for her team. Look for her to lead a Russell County team that could be a surprise contender in the region.
Abby West Abby West 5'7" | SG Grant County | 2020 State KY , Grant County – How does a returning leading scorer with multiple scholarship offers get considered a candidate for a breakout? By improving those numbers and leading her team to postseason success that has eluded Grant County recently. Look out for Abby and the Lady Braves this season.
Mia Beam Mia Beam 5'8" | SG Christian Academy Louisville | 2020 State KY , CAL – The Cornell signee is going from being the third scoring option to the main one this season and her numbers should see a significant increase in her final season for CAL. If Mia can improve her three point shooting percentage from the 21% she posted in her Junior year, she can make huge strides towards being an All Region player and possibly lead CAL back to the 2A State title.
