This was a back and forth game for the most part, but Memorial ultimately pulled away in the fourth quarter and ended up winning 48-38. Both teams utilized deep rotations, so I got to see a ton of talented under-the-radar players compete in this game. Here are seven prospects that caught my attention Friday night:
Katy Wade – 2021 5’5 Combo Guard Plano West – Wade does a good job of not forcing things on offense. She plays within herself and never gets too high or low. She showed that she can make the three ball and is also a solid defender.
Marigrace McDowell – 2020 6’1 Power Forward/Center Plano West – McDowell has great size and a nice variety of moves in the post. She is particularly efficient with her up-and-under move on the block. She had big second quarter that helped the Wolves claw their way back into this game.
Monica Marsh – 2023 5’3 Combo Guard Plano West – Marsh has a pretty jumper and a really good mid-range game. She has a nice floater in her arsenal as well. The freshman guard also showed that she can step out and hit a three off the catch.
Griffyn Young – 2020 5’4 Point Guard Plano West – The junior floor general has good a handle on the rock and is a solid facilitator in the half court. Young really shines on defense though. She may be a bit undersized, but she is a scrappy defender who is always pestering opposing ball handlers.
Jasmyn Lott – 2022 5’8 Combo Guard (Nike Lady Pro Skills 16U EYBL) Memorial HS – Lott is an excellent three-point shooter. She isn’t afraid to let it fly from deep in transition. The 2022 prospect also had a highlight reel play in this game when she used a spin move to free herself up for a transition layup. She is a lot of fun to watch.
Alexis Darce – 2021 Guard Memorial HS – This is a catch-and-shoot specialist if I’ve ever seen one. Darce has a beautiful release on her jumper and is always ready to let it rip when she catches the ball. She will make you pay if you leave her open.
Kailee Deffebaugh – 2022 Guard/Wing Memorial HS – Deffebaugh is a versatile player who can get it done at both ends. I really liked her defense in this game. She had an emphatic block in the low post that left me speechless.
