As we enter the 2019/2020 high school basketball season in Kansas. Prep Hoops will preview some of the Kansas City area high schools. These preview articles will give you details on key players, season expectations and more.
In this article, we preview the SM Northwest Lady Cougars. After finishing 16-7 a year ago and making a state tournament appearance Northwest is looking to reload and compete in a good Sunflower League.
Players to watch
Kennedy Taylor, Forward, Junior, (2021)
Taylor, in orange fighting for loose ballThe 6’3, power forward is a returning starter for the Lady Cougars. Coming off a productive sophomore year where she averaged close to a double-double with 10pts & 9 rbs. These numbers would earn her 3rd team all-conference honors. The long, powerful and athletic Taylor blends power and finesse when maneuvering close to the basket. An eminent rebounder that is able to track boards outside her radius consistently. A key member of the KC Dream Basketball Club, where she competed against high-level competition all summer, look for her to be one of the leaders for Northwest.
Kylie Dunn, Guard/Forward, Junior. (2021)
A gritty left-hander, Dunn is another returning starter for the Lady Cougars from a year ago. A do it all player, with tons of versatility on both sides of the ball. Kylie handles well, can make plays for herself as well as her teammates. Dunn is also a great on the ball and help defender. Look for her to production to increase this season for the Lady Cougars after a productive summer with Next Level Eclipse .
Tamara Harris-Webster, Forward, Sophomore, (2022)
The versatile lefty had a active first year off the bench in 2018-19. She enters her sophomore season looking to play a more pivotal role for the Lady Cougars. Tamara’s length allows her the ability to produce in many facets. Defensively she’s able to alter shots, get a ton of deflections and be a productive rebounder. Offensively this size allows her to be effective both interior against post as well as on the perimeter against smaller guards.
Northwest has a good group of under and upperclassmen such as Saige Grampsas, Ericka Ojeda & Mollie Elfrink, that should be able to help the Lady Cougars compete this year in the state.
