In the latest preview of top games to see, I will take things to the Eastern side of Washington. Some of the best pre-league games always go down at the Fitz Tourney Classic annually held in Spokane. Out of state teams always make an appearance to make games competitive and fun to watch. For the second year in a row, Beaverton High School will head to Spokane to play some of the top GSL teams. Last year ended in two early season losses for Beaverton when they faced the 3a and 4a Washington State runner-ups, Mt. Spokane and Lewis and Clark. Beaverton would go on to place 3rd in Oregon 6a. On the other side, Central Valley has put together as impressive of a run in the last five years as any program in the state. They finished 6th in Washington’s 4a classification a year ago. With both teams returning a crew of talented players, this year’s matchup will be a great early season test!

What’s on the line: Bragging rights and overall record. Washington versus Oregon is always a fun test between top tier teams and this will set the tone for the 2019-2020 season.
Central Valley “Sleepers”:
Central Valley has been a consistent state title contender for many years in a row now, but the talk around this year’s team are pretty quiet statewide. This game will give CV a chance to see where they stand against teams with multiple Division 1 signees. 2020 Seattle U commit Peyton Howard will provide a boost at the guard position for CV. 2021 MJ Bruno is on track for a breakout junior year and will garner Division 1 interest. CV will have to use their speed and athleticism against Beaverton’s size inside.
Beaverton’s Division 1 Crew:
Beaverton’s core of seniors have played together year round for many years now and now is their time to put it all together. They have the talent with 6’1 Arizona State commit, Sydney Erikstrup and her 6’2 sister Laura Erikstrup who will be playing at San Diego following her high school career. At the point guard position is 5’11 Boise State commit, Mary Kay Naro (Feature image). They have a solid supporting cast as well in the junior class, but it will ultimately come down to their D1 senior leaders getting it done.
