As we celebrate their success I wanted to take some time to let you know who should be signing in April to close out the 2020 class. This is part one of the series on unsigned seniors.
Julia Williams, 5’10” Combo guard, John Carroll
Julia had to deal with some injuries last season but she is healthy and ready to compete in the IAAM. Julia is fundamentally sound and a good 3 point shooter. She straps up on defense and uses her length well to disrupt. She’s not afraid to take big shots. Check out some of her work on this video.
Samiya Esema, 6’1″ Power Forward, Landsdowne
Samiya runs the floor well for a big and has a nice motor. She’s a great offensive rebounder and finishes well. She has range out to 15 feet and is a solid on ball and help defender. A low D1 looking for a big will probably scoop her up during the season. She is looking for a school with Exercise Science as a major. Here is a link to a short video of Samiya.
Destiny Ryles, 5’4″ Point Guard, St. Paul’s School For Girls
Destiny is a fun player to watch. She is lightening quick and has a nasty handle. She plays with swagger and will talk a little trash while she is blowing by defenders. She can score from all over the court and is a terror in transition. She led St. Paul’s to the IAAM B conference championship last season. Check out Destiny giving St. Mary’s a career high 39 points last season in this video.
Nhakaiya Smith, 5’5″ Point Guard, St. Vincent Pallotti
Nhakaiya is a pass first point guard with a high IQ. She really throws some nice passes to set her teammates up. I like her toughness as she is willing to scuffle for rebounds and loose balls. She never quits on a play and has a nice pull up, mid range game. She will have a big role for Pallotti this season so she will get scooped up as they play a solid schedule. Check her out in this video.
Lillian Harris, 6’0″ Center, Westminster
After a pretty good summer on the Under Armour circuit Lillian has moved to Westminster High from St. John’s Catholic Prep.
Briele Owens, 5’4″ Point Guard, Meade
Briele is one of my favorite guards in the area. She attacks non stop in transition and in half court sets. The kid can get to the basket and is a good finisher. She is relentless on defense and comes up with a lot of deflections and steals. Very smart player that will be successful at the next level. Check her out in this video.
Jourdyn Ayers, 5’9″, Wing, New Town
Tough and rugged player that can play on the front court and give you back court minutes as well. She is a good rebounder and will mix it up on defense. She looks like she has put some injuries behind her and is ready for a good senior season. Check out her video.
Shanysse Alexander, 5’10” Wing, Mt. Carmel
Very versatile and intelligent player that never takes any plays off. She has very strong academics and is being pursued by some D3 schools.
Jasmine Valentine, 5’11” Power Forward, Pallotti
What I love about Jasmine is that she can catch the ball in traffic and finish with both hands. That seems so basic but so many players can’t do that consistently. If you need an athletic and rugged forward that is willing to bang and can you some buckets check out Jasmine’s video.
Thalia Stangherlin, 5’9″, Wing/Guard, Pallotti
Concussions slowed Thalia down last year but I expect her to bounce back and have a big season. Thalia is the ultimate glue player who does a little bit of everything and will do anything to help her team win. She is a crafty scorer with a nice mid range game and she will crash the boards. She is a good on ball defender that can match up with bigger players if necessary.
Jazmine Washington, 5″5″ Point Guard, Oakland Mills
Jaz is a scoring point guard with long range. She is a tough and physical player that will make you work for everything. She is quite capable of running an offense and getting into the paint. Check out her video.
Tiffany Manning, 5’6″ Point Guard, Western Tech
Tiffany is a talented lefty point guard with a deadly 3 point stroke. She is solidly built and not afraid to mix it up. She has some nice but subtle crossover moves that help her get into the paint where she can finish and dish off effectively.
