#1 – Grace Larkins – 5’10 SF – Southeast Polk
Larkins holds her top spot in the updated 2021 rankings. In fact, the top six players held their spots in the rankings. Larkins has committed to South Dakota, one of the top programs in the country. Larkins has added a lot of skill over the past few months and has shown to be very dominant at taking the ball to the basket. Larkins is practically unstoppable when she gets to the rim and she is showing that this season for Southeast Polk. (Featured Photo)
#2 – Katie Dinnebier – 5’7 PG – Waukee
One of the toughest and high motor players in the state finds herself once again at the second spot mainly due to the versatility of Larkins. Dinnebier is now committed to Drake and should figure to seamlessly slide into the starting lead guard role at some point for Drake. Dinnebier is showing off her passing ability and court vision at a very high level this year. Her scoring is a little down this year but she can really score the ball too.
#3 – Audrey Koch – 5’11 SF – Iowa City West
Koch had a tremendous summer and is having a great high school season so far. She’s shooting the ball really well while getting her teammates involved. Koch has the ability to play four spots on the floor and has shown the ability to handle the ball really well giving her the versatility to run the point. Koch’s shot has gotten faster and she is shooting over 50% from the floor this year as the main scoring option on her team.
#4 – Riley Wright – 5’10 SF – Marion
Wright is a Northern Iowa commit and she has a huge ceiling. She’s gotten a little stronger and has been finishing with the ball really well this year. Wright is a point-forward type of player where she can play any spot on the floor but does a lot of the ball-handling for Marion. I think that Wright has a chance to be a really special player for Northern Iowa here in a few years. She’s a dominant piece of the puzzle to Marion’s success.
#5 – Anaya Barney – 5’10 SF – Cedar Falls
Barney has continued to improve all facets of the game and like many of these players can play many different spots on the floor. She is close to a clone of Wright but is a little thinner and can shoot the ball from the outside better. Both are committed to Northern Iowa and Barney will likely play an off-ball guard role but she too can play spots 1-3 on the floor. I really like the upside of Barney as she continues to develop her game on the floor.
#6 – Ashley Iiams – 6′1 – PF – Ames
Iiams is your prototypical stretch four as she has the strength to defend on the inside but she also has the quickness to defend out on the wing. Iiams had a very solid summer and is now leading the charge for Ames scoring 17 points a game. She is shooting 41.9 percent from behind the arc which is a nice increase from last year where she shot 35 percent. Iiams is one of three players in the top 10 who haven’t yet made their college decision yet this year.
#7 – Moriah Prewitt – 5’8 – SG – Des Moines Christian
Prewitt is the biggest riser into the top 10 as she has moved up 12 spots from being 19th. Prewitt has really transformed her game over the past year and has seen a steady rise in the rankings. She has gotten stronger, quicker, and has started to find her game more complete. She has more assists than turnovers this year and is going to be an excellent combo guard for a Division I school at the next level. Prewitt is one of the hardest workers and best teammates in the state.
#8 – Abbie Draper – 6′1 PF – Waverly-Shell Rock
Draper is an excellent post player with a ton of strength down in the paint. She can singlehandedly win games for her team. Draper has shown the ability to handle the ball better in traffic and she can stretch it out a little bit on the floor. She is shooting close to 60 percent from the floor this year. She has continued to improve and has solidified herself in the top 10. She is as solid of a true post player as anyone in the state. Draper has recently committed to Bradley.
#9 – Maggie Phipps – 5’10 SG – North Polk
Phipps moved back into the top 10 because of her scoring ability. She has the ability to score the ball at all three levels and is best off of the catch. Phipps has also gotten better defensively over the past six months and has shown the ability to get to the rim and score. She is struggling shooting the ball this season but that doesn’t detract from the fact that she can. Phipps is a Drake commit and the second Drake commit in the top 10.
#10 – Sasha Koenig – 5’6 PG – West Branch
Koenig introduces herself into the top 10 as she sees a six-spot rise up from being 16th ranked in the last set of rankings. Koenig is an ultra-aggressive point guard who passes, defends, and shoots it really well. Koenig has improved her game a lot this summer and has transformed herself into one of the best scoring point guards in the state. Coupled with her passing ability the Bradley commit moves up into the top 10 and it doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon.
