Ashton Verhulst, 6’2″, F, Bishop Miege, Next Level Eclipse – Verhust advanced 21 places to #7 and has committed to University of Central Florida. Last season she was selected to the Sports In Kansas 4A all-state tournament team following Miege’s state championship. She was a Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) class 4A honorable mention and Eastern Kansas League first team selection as well. With a solid game on both ends of the floor Verhulst can play inside, step out for a three, run the floor well, and use her length to her advantage to alter shots. She averaged 11.5 points and 4.9 rebounds a contest.
Wheat State Elite – Chaos’ 2020 guard Kadyn Cobb (Salina Central) watches Ohlde Elite 2020 Pink’s point 2020 guard Taylor Jameson during their Reign the Plains game at Wichita Sports Forum.Taylor Jameson, 5’5″, G, Wichita Heights, Ohlde Elite – Jameson advanced 15 spots to #8 and has committed to George Mason University. She was also a Greater Wichita League second team selection. Jameson’s stock grew substantially in the past year. She has 30′ three point range, can get shots off quickly, and has jump shooting ability. On both ends of the floor she has elite quickness. She uses it, along with a strong crossover dribble, to beat people off the bounce. Along with her great hand speed she uses it get her share of steals. She is also one of the few players who can keep elite point guards in front of them 1-on-1. James is fast with the ball in transition and is able to athletically finish on either side of the basket or quickly pull up for a 8′-10′ jumper.
Camille Evans, 5’7″, PG, Schlagle,
Next Level Eclipse
– Evans advanced 18 spots to #15 and has committed to Missouri Western State University. Evans was a Topeka Capital Journal 5A third team all-state and a Kansas City-Atchison League first team selection. A three point threat who is athletic around the basket off the drive, Evans has terrific handles including a strong change of pace. She has been described by her high school coach as having high basketball I.Q. and strong ability to run the show. Given that she qualified for the 5A state track meet for the 100m (15th), 200m (7th), and 4x200m relay, Evans has great transition speed with or without the ball. This past season she averaged 9.7 assists, 8.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.5 steals per game.
Lakyn Schiefereke, 5’8″, G, McPherson, Wheat State Elite – Schiefereke advanced 19 spots to #47 and has committed to Washburn University. This past season she was a Topeka Capital Journal third team 5A all-state and Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div III second team selection. Schiefereke is fast in transition with the ball, can run the point, and is a three point threat. Reliable and aggressive on the defensive end she also is a strong rebounder. After suffering an ACL tear in May, Schiefereke is expected to return to the floor during the second half of the season.
Madelyn Hutley, 5’5″, G, Wabaunsee – Hutley advanced 30 positions to #49 and has also committed to Washburn University. This past season Hutley was selected as KBCA 2A second team all-state, Sports In Kansas 2A all-state tournament team, and first team Mid-East League. Last season she averaged 13.9 points on a team that finished third at the state basketball tournament.
Khylee Massey, 6’0″, PF, Northern Heights, Wheat State Elite – Massey advanced 14 positions to #58 and has committed to Johnson County Community College. Selected first team all-Flint Hills League for the past three years, Massey also was a KBCA 2A honorable mention all-state selection for the second year. This past season she averaged 16 points (51.5% FG%), 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 2.1 assists. At July’s Reign the Plains event in Wichita she showed that she goes up strong inside and can finish with contact. She also has good ball skills to help create space inside.
