American Leadership Academy-Queen Creek looks very tough! The group went 3-0 on the today, winning by a large amount each game. They head into bracket play tomorrow, looking like the undoubtably best team in the event.
The team is led by senior’s Kaycee Kimball and Jess Winquist. These two girls have serious game and are accompanied by some great role players in sophomore twin sisters, Tatum and Sage Matheny. Junior, Morgan Christensen, is also a huge help to the team.
Kimball leads the way in scoring and assists for the squad. She has a great scoring ability, with her biggest asset being her deep shooting ability. Kimball can pull it from the volleyball line and will do it if you give her the space. Most of her points today, came off of the 3 ball.
Winquist holds the front court down and is a monster on the boards. Jess is a very good low post defender and has a knack for blocking shots. I really appreciate the overall hustle of Winquist as she is always diving for loose balls and getting dirty!
The Matheny twin sisters are a big help on defense and in transition offense. Both sisters are extremely fast and hustle on defense. From talking to a ALA-QC parent, one of the Matheny sisters had broken a school track record, only to have her record be beaten by her twin sister that next week! This is just a testament to how fast these girls are! They are athletes!
Christensen shows flashes of brilliance! She is still missing some pieces but you can tell she is slowly starting to put it all together. She showed that she can play defense, knock down the open 3, and she really did work in transition.
This team is a run and gun team that loves to push the pace and score in transition. They can put up a lot of points in a hurry and should be looked at as a contender in 3A.
