Orlando Jones high school women’s basketball team traveled down to compete in the event. One of the players from Jones I noticed right away was #15, class of 2020 Amani Fitzgerald. Just from the eye test alone, (where players catch the eye of potential coaches, scouts and evaluators) she passed. Fitzgerald’s body frame displays toned arms and an athletic build, which makes you wanna see more.
Their first challenge was against one of South Florida’s dominate programs Palm Beach Lakes. We got to see just how physical Fitzgerald was. She rebounded, drove through the lane and displayed an energetic presence for her team. She was able to lead her Jones to victory over the talented Lady Rams.
Second challenge was against another dominate program of South Florida, the Miami Norland Lady Vikings. Although the Lady Tigers came up short, Fitzgerald tallied a double double with points and rebounds. Her relentless pursuit of rebounds helped will her team to get second chance opportunities and trips to the foul line for her. She showed her ability to handle the ball, hit the mid range shot, attack the boards and her leadership qualities.
When asked some of the things she will do to help her team, throughout the rest of the year, Fitzgerald responded, “we have to get more cooperation from the whole team together, we have to get stronger and develop more as a team.”
