Though, what about the subtle foot soldiers who quietly do the little things crucial to victory? Although most of these ladies weren’t the headliners for their teams, their respective contributions were invaluable to their teams’ success this past weekend at the CHC.
- Marlow Chapman – Providence. The 5’10” Senior Forward was huge in the first half as Providence Day jumped out to an early 16-7 advantage. Chapman kept the Panthers in the game with timely baseline jumpers and a great overall floor game. She did just enough to help Providence survive until the big guns took over and carried them home.
- Eva Butler – Providence. The 5’7″ Sophomore Guard is silky smooth and plays much older than her age would indicate she should. She was the primary reason Providence was able to overcome a 29-28 halftime deficit and start the 3rd quarter on a game deciding 14-0 run. She hit a huge three and had multiple steals during the run hat sealed PD’s fate.
- Anastasia Sinclair – South Mecklenburg High School. The 5’6″ Freshman Guard may have not stuffed the stat sheet (2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist), but when given an opportunity to play because of the injury to Senior Shakyra Harley, she displayed great poise and provided a spark during the first half of South’s 49-34 win over Victory Christian.
- Nyomi Ndango – South Mecklenburg. The 6’1″ Junior Post player displayed controlled aggression that set a tone of physicality that was needed against the tall front line of Victory. She is definitely an intriguing prospect to watch moving forward.
- Trinity Moreland – Vance – A 6’2″ Sophomore Post with great feet, Moreland played a big role in Vance’s 64-46 destruction of Butler Friday night. She moves incredibly well for a prep big and has a soft touch from the paint and the line.
- Tanajah Hayes – Vance – This 5’6″ Wing was the best player on the floor Friday night. After a sluggish 1st quarter that Butler led 4-3, Hayes came on the court and left me and the other spectators wondering why she wasn’t a starter. She immediately put her stamp on the game. Her quickness and handle and court smarts turned a competitive game into a rout. According to some parents, she has been slowed by injuries. When she is healthy, Vance is going to be a formidable opponent for anyone they face.
- Meghan Rogers – Ardrey Kell. Although her taller, flashier teammate Eva Miller (16 points, 5 rebounds and an assist) was voted Player of the Game, I felt the real MVP of Kell’s 46-44 come from behind victory was Rogers. The 5’6″ Senior floor general had 10 points 7 assists and 5 rebounds and made all the clutch plays down the stretch.
- Lucy Vanderbeck – Ardrey Kell. Vanderbeck, a 5’10” Junior Wing also came up huge for the Knights against Cannon with 11 points 4 assists and 3 steals. Despite Cannon leading 44-40, Kell finished on a 6-0 run to end the game and Vanderbeck was a catalyst.
- Naya Clamp – Myers Park – The 5’6″ Junior Wing had 7 points and 3 huge steals. Her defense was instrumental in holding Cuthbertson to a season low 39 points.
- Mia Xerras – Myers Park – The 5’6″ Freshman sensation was the best player on the court in the 4th quarter of MP’s 52-39 victory against Cuthbertson. With star Taylor Henderson saddled with 4 fouls, Xerras took control of the reins, ran the team smoothly and hit a huge 3 to dagger the Cuthbertson ladies.
