The early part of the High School Basketball season allows for some out of state or region games, to see how your team is going to matchup versus teams you don’t usually play against. Paul VI High School (VA) Head Coach: Scott Allen – hosts the Art Turner Memorial ( In honor of his Grandfather who is a WW II veteran & Sports enthusiast) that brings some of the top teams from up & down the east coast to kick off their seasons. 20 schools that traveled from GA, VA, MD, PA, DC, NY & NJ came to play, I am highlighting the standouts from the 1st day of action.

5:00 PM Edison (VA) vs National Christian (MD)
6:30 PM Westlake (GA) vs St. John’s (DC)
8:00 PM Paul VI (VA) vs Christ the King (NY)
1. Aurea Gingras – 2020 – 5’9” – Guard – Edison HS – Scored 12 Pts including 9 in the 2nd half & overtime, hit 2, 4th Quarter 3 -Ptrs that helped bring her team back and helped pushed the game to overtime. The George Washington Signee let the game come to herself & was a key part of her teams 57 – 53 Victory over National Christian.
2. Raven Johnson – 2021 – 5’8” – Guard – Westlake HS – 1 of the top players in the country, she lead her team from the tip to the buzzer…. Finished the game with 10 Pts – 7 Assists – 5 Rebounds – 5 Steals in leading her team to a strong Victory over St. John’s – Her ability to control the tempo of play is a quality that has all of the top colleges in the country offering her a scholarship.
3. Delaney Thomas – 2023 – 6’2” – Forward – St. John’s HS – Outstanding performance by this freshman in keeping her team in the game, she was able to control the paint on both sides of the floor. Scored 13 Points & 8 Rebounds but her court awareness and effort were way beyond her age, she was able to space the floor with her shooting ability & cleaned the glass for putbacks. Game MVP.
4. Saniyah Glenn – 2022 – 6’1” – Guard – Christ the King – Long athletic player that can get up and down the court in a heartbeat, was able to keep her team in it early with some highly skilled plays. Can score it all all 3 levels of play, exciting highlight reel player.
5. Brianna Turnage – 2021 – 6’2” – Guard – Westlake HS – Highly skilled player that can affect the game in so many ways, was able to score 12 Pts, add 10 Rebounds & 4 Steals throughout the game. Her size + skill + motor are a tough combination to matchup with especially at the High School level, a very highly recruited player Nationally – Game MVP.
6. Jaelyn Talley – 2022 – 6’0” – Forward – Paul VI HS – High energy player that fit the offensive flow perfectly, was able to score the basket below the free throw line consistently all night. Ran the floor with a purpose and moved with out the ball to create easy catch & finish plays around the basket. Finished the night with 15 Pts & 8 Rebounds off the bench to earn the game MVP.
7. Ciara Harris – 2020 – 5’9” – Guard – National Christian HS – Skilled perimeter player that can shoot the ball with consistency from the mid-range or beyond the arc. Was able to give her team balance & timely scoring throughout the night, leading her team with 15 Pts & received the Game MVP.
8. Celeste Castma – 2021 – 6’1” – Forward – Edison HS – Versatile player that was able to lead her team back from a 10 Pt deficit in the 3rd Qtr to an Overtime Victory. Started the game on fire scoring 7 in the 1st period & was up to 11 Pts at halftime, Finished with a game high 18 Points including a huge 3-Ptr in Overtime to secure the lead. Game MVP.
9. Faith Alston – 2020 – 5’9” – Guard – Paul VI HS – Floor leader is the best way to describe the Senior leader of this team, she set the tone early on against Christ the King by being locked in on defense. The App State Signee was all over the court during the game, finished with 4 Points – 5 Rebounds – 4 Steals – 5 Assists.
