Kaitlyn Voth, Post, St. Cloud Cathderal (2022)
Voth was a key component inside for the Crusaders. She used her size to push rebounds against the Flyers from Little Falls. Aside from Lewis’s great performance, the post play of Voth and others you will find on our standouts list is the different why St. Cloud Cathedral won this one.
Faith Van Erp, Guard, St. Cloud Cathderal (2021)
Faith’s basketball IQ is what stood out to me yesterday. Knowing where her teammates were on the court helped Van Erp’s leap onto this list. She also came with a nice outside shot which makes her the 2nd punch in the Crusaders backcourt.
Charita Lewis, Guard, St. Cloud Cathedral (2022, 36th in our class of 2022 power rankings)
The first drive to the bucket Lewis took had me in awe. I haven’t seen a point guard that quick yet this season. She has a good looking outside shot and has no fear of taking it to the basket at 5’4. Although she struggled with a few turnovers and got into foul trouble in the first half, she bounced back well in the second half to end her night with 15 points and coined the nickname “Flash” as she is definitely one of the quickest players in the state of Minnesota.
St. Cloud Cathedral Guard, Charita Lewis (Left)Game MVP-Taylor Jordan, Guard, Little Falls (2021)
Jordan’s three-pointers were on fire last night! Finishing the night with 20 points which lead all scorers, Jordan was also a huge motivator on the court as well. With the Flyers trailing, she took it upon herself to motivate her teammates to apply the defensive pressure which cut the Crusaders lead inside single digits in the end. Jordan continues her season with her second 20 point game of the season. This is the first time in my coverage that I’ve felt the game MVP award has been won by a team on the losing end, congratulations to Taylor Jordan!
Game Takeaways
Steals Were the Difference Maker
Charita Lewis had a large amount of the steals for the Crusaders last night. totaling 12 on the game as a team, which made the turnovers for the Flyers at even a higher cost.
A Point Guard Matchup You Didn’t Want to Miss
Taylor Jordan (Little Falls) and Charita Lewis (Cathedral) were massive competitors in this one. Combining for 35 of the games 78 points almost 45% of the scoring in this one. I think the girls’ basketball fans of the 320 area code might want to head to Little Falls on January 24th to watch these two duels it out again, as they both impressed last night.
