- Ta’Ziah Jenks – Mercy – 6-1- Forward (West Virginia)
What stands out most about Ta’Ziah is her ability to do a lot of things well. She has the crazy length and tremendous athletic ability to go along with her incredible skill set. Jenks is very crafty in the lane and getting to the rim. She attempted 7.5 free throws per game last season as a junior and hit on 67% of them. There is still room to improve, which what makes her potential through the roof. She continues to get physically stronger and will need to continue developing her shooting from beyond the arc. With her strong work ethic and desire to become the best she will definitely be one to watch.
2. Shelby Calhoun – CAL – 5-11 – Guard (Virginia Tech) (16.2ppg, 15.5rpg)
Shelby is one of those special point guards that can score whenever she wants but is continuously getting her teammates involved. Calhoun exhibits excellent vision and poise when handling against pressure, especially during transition. As a point guard, she also averaged 11.5 rebounds per contest as a junior to go with her 10.1 points. With Shelby putting up big numbers in numerous categories, her chances of contending for Miss Basketball are very high.
3. Erin Toller – Sacred Heart – 5-6 – Guard (Kentucky) (15.0ppg, 4.8 rpg, 35% 3pt)
Despite suffering two ACL injuries, Erin continues to not only be one of the best players in the Louisville area, but also in the state. You have to go back to her sophomore season to find high school stats for Erin. She averaged 10 points and 4.8 rebounds for a team that lost in the Region Championship. Erin has worked hard to get back to play her senior season and looks ready to go at the start of the season. Toller can play either guard spot and really looks to post up smaller guards for a mismatch. Erin is a very smooth play maker who likes to push the ball in transition.
4. Destinee Marshall – Sacred Heart – 5-6 – Guard (Radford) (13.8ppg, 1.8rpg, 50% 3pt)
Destinee is one of the best pure point guards in the state. She gets to the basket better than anyone. Her quickness and pure athletic ability makes her hard to stop in any one on one situation. Marshall is basically unstoppable in transition with her skills and high basketball IQ. She is more than just a slashing point guard which is evident from her 36% from behind the arc last season. Being on a team as talented as Sacred Heart will help push Destinee to the top of everyone’s list by season’s end.
