Both teams struggled to score for 2 1/2 quarters. That isn’t from lack of offensive talent, but due to quality defenders. In this article I examine the 10 best prospects in this game.
In no particular order they are:
- Sydney Harris is a 6’0 2022 wing from Edwardsville. Sydney is an excellent shooter that continues to improve her game off the bounce. She is deadly shooting off the catch which causes tight coverage when she does have the ball. As she continues to add and perfect moves off the bounce Sydney will solidify her spot as one of the top scorers in her class.
- Que Love is a 5’4 2020 point guard from Edwardsville. Que is an SIU commit that is known for her speed and ball handling. She is also a relentless defender that uses her quickness to cause pressure and turnovers. The next phase of her game is improving her outside shot. This came in big for Edwardsville as she hit a key 3-point shot that helped get their run going to put this game away.
- Kristyn Mitchell is a 6’0 2020 post from Collinsville. Kristyn has a versatile offensive game. She can score in the post and also play the face up game and hit from the outside. She showed both in this game during a quick scoring burst. Kristyn is an excellent student and an ideal fit for a NAIA/D3 school looking for a big that can score at all 3 levels.
- Caite Knutson is a 5’11 2020 wing from Collinsville. Caite plays a very versatile game. She is capable of playing inside or out on both offense and defense. She is strong and athletic, which she uses well on defense to guard multiple positions, most often the opposing teams best player. Offensively she can hit the 3-point shot but also excels with a nice drop step on smaller defenders in the post. Caite would be a good fit at a JC as she has plenty of room to refine her offensive skills. She can can also step in and play at the NAIA/D3 level.
- Katelynne Roberts is a 6’3 2021 post from Edwardsville. Katelynne is long and can defend and rebound well. She will improve her overall game with increased strength and agility. She has some nice moves in the post offensively and uses both hands well. Katelynne has height that cannot be taught, her ceiling will be determined by the work she can put in to improve her strength.
- Jordan Gary is a 5’6 2023 guard from Collinsville. Jordan has shown excellent athletic skills in her time off the bench for Coach Billy. She is quick and can jump well so she can help on the defensive end. As with any freshman she has plenty of room to improve her skill but you can see the upside.
- Elle Evans is a 6’0 2022 wing from Edwardsville. Elle has shown an ability to be a important piece on both ends of the floor for Edwardsville. She has a nice shot from the outside as a scorer but also uses her length very well on defense. She can guard multiple positions and in this game was able to cause problems for Collinsville point guard Faith Liljegren, Elle has a D1 offer in hand and could very well be adding to that as she shows her versatility on the floor.
- Astacia Bush is a 5’9 2021 guard from Collinsville. Astacia is an excellent defender that shines in the full court fast paced game. She is strong and can finish through contact and runs the floor well. She will have a more extensive role in her senior year so she will be able to show more of her game. Right now she looks like a player that would really benefit from a JC to expand her game.
- Macy Silvey is a 5’8 2022 guard from Edwardsville. Macy is a year away from making a large impact for Edwardsville but shows her ability to handle the ball and score when she gets her minutes. Macy had a very good AAU season with the Blue Star St. Louis program where she was forced to play the point for the first extended time in her career. She has always been able to score so she has added some skills that college coaches will like.
- Ariana Bennett is a 6’0 2022 forward from Edwardsville. Ariana has always been a high motor player that has show the ability to defend and rebound at a high rate. I have compared her to Dennis Rodman in previous articles. She is putting time and effort into improving her ball handling and shooting to make herself an outside threat on offense. She still has a long way to go but she needs to be monitored over the next 2 seasons.
This was a tight game for 22 minutes but the offensive skills of Edwardsville finally took over. There is a full stable of talent at Edwardsville as the class of 2022 brings girls that played a big part in 3 straight IESA championships. These 10 girls and more could prove to be quality college players.
