Henderson County came out firing in the 2Q as they quickly cut down the NC lead to four points. Later in the quarter Henderson County’s Emilee Hope connected on her fourth shot from beyond the arch to put Henderson County up 29-27. HC took a 32-27 lead into the half. North Central started to claw back early in the 3Q, but they were quickly stopped by the HC defense, HC led 46-41 after 3Q. North Central outscored Henderson County 25-8 in the 4Q led by senior standout Jasmine McWilliams. North Central won with a final score of 66-54.
North Central Can Get Out and Run
North Central started off up 16-4 as they scored all of their points off of fastbreak buckets and steals. I was surprised NC moved away from trapping and that was when Henderson County started to get back into the game. Nakaih Hunter and Meg Newman were the leaders of the NC fastbreak. Newman finished with 12 points and Hunter finished with 13.
Northwestern Commit Jasmine McWilliams Is the Real Deal
McWilliams was quiet in the first half. She made up for it in the second half scoring all of her 18 points. North Central struggled to find a bucket for a while, and McWilliams came up big for them when they needed her. She helped spark the 25-8 4Q run by North Central to eventually put the game away. I would like to see her score from the outside a little bit more. Overall I thought she did a great job of letting the game come to her and not trying to do too much.
Emilee Hope Can Fill It Up From Three
This was my second chance to see Emilee Hope and she was lights out once again. She hit four shots from deep in the second quarter against North Central. She finished the first half with 16 points on 4/6 from beyond the arch. Hope hit one more three in the second half, She finished with 26 points against a very physical North Central team.
North Central Has Some Firepower In the Paint
Only 6 of North Central’s 66 points came from beyond the arch. Meg Newman, Nakaih Hunter, and Jasmine McWilliams dominated all day down low grabbing a ton of rebounders and scoring at will. I would like to see NC kick out to their shooters a little bit more and run a few more set plays for their bigs. Overall I thought the performance from the NC post players was outstanding and their toughness was second to none.
Henderson County Has a Future
Senior Emilee Hope leads Henderson County as their primary scorer. Along with Hope Henderson County has a ton of talented young players who were able to contribute to many different aspects of the game. Seven of the twelve players on the Henderson County roster are underclassman, five of them being a freshman. Henderson County had several of those young players score and others played very well on the defensive end.
