After a tight first half in which the second seeded Monarchs of Papillion-LaVista held a slim 26-25 lead, Papio took off in the third quarter, aided by some poor shooting by the Huskies of Northwest High School, leading 43-30 at the end of the quarter. By the end of the afternoon, Papillion LaVista became the fourth and final team for Thursday afternoon’s semi-final by defeatig Omaha Northwest, 65-49.

Most Intriguing Prospects from Omaha North at Papillion-LaVista
JayVeonna Williams (5’9″ Sophomore, Omaha Northwest): Williams is an active stretch four who runs the floor really hard and had great timing in her rebounding, especially on the offensive end. If the Huskies had more depth, I could see Williams being a really good defender at the top of a trapping, zone pressure scheme. A raw athlete, Williams needs to continue to develop her overall offensive game, especially in her face up game. She will need to add a consistent jump shot for the Huskies to take the next step.
Taniya Golden (6’0″ Freshman, Omaha Northwest): Golden, who sat out the Metro Tournament because of injury, is a big, strong post player but has great feet around the basket and has a nice touch. Around the basket, she finishes well for a young player and figures to only get better. Like most of the Huskies, she figures to only get better as she matures.
Ale’jah Douglas (5’5″ Junior, Omaha Northwest): After watching Douglas play twice in the last two weeks, I am more and more impressed with her game. She is a volume scorer, but I believe that she doesn’t force as many shots as one would think. She has terrific range and can score at all three levels, and finishes suprisingly well around the rim despite her slight frame. Douglas sees the floor very well and is always looking for open teammates up the floor, and she is also active on defense. Douglas has a nose for the ball and is not afraid of 50/50 pileups and fighting for loose balls. The more I see of Ale’jah Douglas, the more I like her.
Brooklyn Busby (5’8″ Freshman, Omaha Northwest): Busby is a nice shooter who knows how to move without the ball. She has three point range and is a great compliment to Douglas in the Huskie backcourt. She also is a good rebounder for a perimeter player, and will continue to grow with Northwest’s young core, who only have one senior on the roster.
