The first day of the 2019-20 girls basketball season has finally arrived.

Many of Colorado’s top teams scheduled great matchups to kick off the season in this opening week. Several of the state’s truly elite programs have chosen to begin the season by taking on top national competition in other states. Let’s take a look at five exciting games in Colorado on different nights this week that should get the new season off to a flying start.



Makayla Hemingway

Cherokee Trail at Rangeview, 7 p.m.

Cherokee Trail enters this opener sitting at No. 10 in the preseason poll, and Rangeview is coming off a 20-win season last winter.

The main draw for Cherokee Trail is Colorado State-signee Makayla Hemingway, an all-around guard who is an early contender for player of the year. The Cougars have more than Hemingway, however, and look like a lock to improve on their 12-13 record from last season. Senior Dominique Rodriguez is a solid point guard recruit who has the strength and speed to get to the best, as well as good court
