Monday: Clear Lake (3-0) @ Mason City (4-0) @ 6:15PM
This might very well be one of the top games of the entire week. Clear Lake looks like a legitimate team early on but so does Mason City. However, Mason City has racked up some impressive wins while Clear Lake still hasn’t been tested. They will be tested here in what could be a season-defining rivalry game for both teams.
Monday: Southeast Polk (3-0) @ Dowling Catholic (3-0) @ 6:15PM
Both teams have gotten out to identical 3-0 starts and will meet on Monday night. This is a big conference matchup for both teams as they look to gain an upper hand early on. Dowling Catholic’s Caitlin Clark and Southeast Polk’s Grace Larkins are both ranked as the top player in their class so this one should be entertaining at the least.
Tuesday: Marquette Catholic (4-0) @ Maquoketa Valley (4-0) @ 6:00PM
Tuesday night we get a matchup between two teams who on the surface look really solid with 4-0 records, but haven’t played anyone of note. Both teams are very similar statistically, but Marquette Catholic has a much better inside game as they average over 21 rebounds more than Maquoketa Valley. This will be an interesting game to track.
Tuesday: Johnston (3-1) @ Waukee (3-0) @ 6:15PM
Johnston has three big wins and a one-point loss to Cedar Falls while Waukee has three blowout wins. Johnston has won the last three matchups between the two schools but look to have their deepest team in years. This one is going to come down to which set of guards play a better game and which take takes care of the ball.
Tuesday: Prairie (2-0) @ Waterloo West (3-0) @ 7:30PM
Both of these teams have run through their opponents to a perfect record thus far. Prairie has had the tougher slate so far but Waterloo West is just dismantling their opponents. This game will come down to how well Waterloo West can slow down the guards for Prairie. I think we’ll see a high scoring battle in this one.
Thursday: Clear Creek-Amana (2-1) @ Grinnell (3-1) @ 6:15
Both of these teams have looked solid in the early going as each of their losses have been to very solid groups in close games. Clear Creek-Amana will likely be 3-1 coming into the game and will look to slow down a Grinnell team that will put up as many 3-pointers as possible. You’re not going to beat Grinnell unless you have a good defensive plan.
Friday: Carroll (3-1) @ Bondurant-Farrar (3-0) @ 6:00PM
Both of these teams have looked very good early in the year and Carroll’s lone loss came to Glenwood, one of the top teams in 3A this year. Bondurant-Farrar has been very balanced so far this season so this should be a very good test for both teams in a conference battle.
Friday: AGWSR (3-1) @ West Marshall (3-0) @ 6:15PM
AGWSR started the year with two huge wins but then fell to Hampton-Dumont-CAL before taking a two-point win over BCLUW. West Marshall has taken care of business so far this season and has gotten three big wins. The winner of this game will prove they are legit, while the loser will have some work to do.
Saturday: ADM (3-1) @ Gilbert (3-2) @ 2:30PM
Much like the AGSWR and West Marshall game, this is one where we will be able to find out if both teams are legit. ADM is 3-1 with a loss to Ballard and Gilbert sits at 3-2 with a loss to Iowa City West and North Polk. If ADM wants to prove themselves, they need to win this game while Gilbert will need to win this to likely complete a 3-0 week.
Saturday: Algona (2-1) @ Bishop Garrigan (3-0)
Bishop Garrigan is going to contend for the 1A state title this year, but the three teams they’ve played so far aren’t very good, to put it lightly. With a game against Algona this week we will really be able to see what Bishop Garrigan is made of. This would be a huge win for Algona as well.
