Continue ReadingThe excitement I captured at the Texas Girls Jamboree can be described in multiple ways so I’ve decided to break it down into various segments. Keep in mind I’m still going to recap both the Peggy Whitley Classic as well as the McDonald’s Texas Invitational and with multiple tournaments coming up, December will be filled with joy, as far as coverage.
Bobiana HillI didn’t get a chance to catch the first two games however ’21 Gwen Rippeto (Bellaire Episcopal) and ’20 Bobiana Hill (Wheatley) were named outstanding players from game one while ’22 Samyra Thomas (Kashmere) and Jasslyn Rogers (KIPP Sunnyside) earned that same recognition for game 2 which from what I hear was a thriller as the game went into overtime and both teams finished with less than 5 players I’m going to jump some games and recognize one of the best offensive battles from opposing players I’ve seen all season in the Jack Yates Lions vs Kinkaid Falcons overtime thriller and if you missed it, you can view that, as well as the other games on Baller TV.
Malon GarnerMalon Garner-guard (Yates) I’ve seen this young lady do some amazing things with the basketball and she is a true UNDER THE RADAR player and after dropping 36 from a variety of ways, you have to ask yourself, why is this kid unsigned and the answer is, because someone isn’t doing their job(s). I always have and will keep it real, that nonsense about if you can play they will find you is just that, nonsense and with the abundance of “fake news” floating around social media on the internet about players doing this or that, some talented players will continue to be overlooked. I asked her before the game if she was ready, her response was “oh yeah” and I knew I was in a for a show as she was simply unconscious from everywhere including the long ball in pressure situations. After the game I asked about her situation, this is how I found out she was available and I was even more blown away to learn she #1 in her class.
Nakeeya McCardellNakeeya McCardell-guard (Kinkaid) talk about “her name preceded her” well “her game preceded her” as well and one of her teammate’s dads gave me the rundown a while back. She didn’t play club ball which is one of the reasons I missed her and after finding out her dad is a former NFL player, much of what she showed me on the court put things in perspective. Her offensive skill set is smooth and under control, she has one of the best mid-range games in the area I’ve seen and her stop and pop being while being tightly defended is second to none on her way to dropping 22 points. She anticipates well and made some huge plays playing the passing lane. I would call her a true UNDER THE RADAR player as well however she has decided to play lacrosse in college
*TRUE UNDER THE RADAR means they would be among the PGH Texas Top 100 plus and one more time, “talent is everywhere if you know what you’re looking at” and please absorb this, “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against”
