Continue ReadingLast weekend featured a big matchup between two of the better teams in the Valley, Granada Hills and Burroughs. Granada Hills is the reigning CIF City Section Open Division champions and they came into the game with an 8-3 record. Burroughs came in with a 5-3 record.
The game started off close, but Granada Hills slowly exerted their will and built up a double-digit lead that they would pretty much hold on to for the rest of the game. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts of the game from both teams.
1. Haylee Aiden – Granada Hills 2020
Aiden is a senior and will be playing college basketball at Cal Baptist next season. She is an anchor in the middle for the defending CIF CS Open Division champions. The defensive pressure she draws opens things up on the court for the rest of the team. She has a nice turnaround jumper in the lane. She also has a form of the running hook shot. Solid rebounder. She is mobile defensively and can match up against bigs and wings.
2. Faith Boulanger – Burroughs 2021
Boulanger is a rising junior who has heard from both Division 1 and Division 2 schools. She is a versatile player who can play in the paint or on the wing. She is a patient player who reads the defense and doesn’t force anything, she makes the right plays and reads. She has a nice floater in the lane. Defensively, she has good timing on her contests in the paint. Good rebounder who boxes out well.
3. Megan Delgado – Granada Hills 2020
Delgado is a solid guard who plays with a lot of energy. She runs the point for the Highlanders and has good court awareness and vision. She can shoot well from the three point line. She moves well when she’s playing off ball and she keeps the ball moving when she has the ball in her hands. Defensively, she is quick and agile and she moves her feet well. Good hands.
4. Sydney Martin – Burroughs 2021
Martin is a decent post player for the Indians. She uses her size well in the paint. Moves well without the ball, she is able to slip behind the defense and make herself ready to catch a pass from her teammates. She has good hands in the post and she finishes well at the rim. Good rebounder who is active on the boards.
5. Crystal Garay – Granada Hills 2020
Garay is a key reserve for the Highlanders. She is a glue-type player who does a lot of little things that don’t always show up on a stat sheet. She moves well without the ball, seems to be in the right place at the right time. She sets screens well and she spots up well from the three-point line. She operates in the mid to high post area.
