Jim Harris Gymnasium
December 7, 2019
Final Score: Dominguez HS 48, St. Marys (Canada) 35
Dominguez proved this week that they are forreal in the respect that they can put a whole game together and win. They battled with St.Marys the whole game, but led for most of it. 2020, 6’1, CG, Leigha Harris showed why she is a D1 prospect scoring 21pts in the win, with a myriad of shots, from all three levels on the court. She had help from 2021, 5’6, PG, Anyssa Baker and she knocked down some key three pointers and got to the basket quite a bit. It was a great game for all and it was an experience for St. Mary’s to come to United Stares and make it to the Finals in the tournament and face a good opponent in Dominguez.
Top Performers – Dominguez HS:
2020, 6’1, CG, Leigha Harris – Put on probably the most dominating performance in one game that she has all summer, spring and season. She put together a great game of driving layups, midrange shots and long three pointers off the bounce. She is a long and lanky player with some smooth criminal ways about her game, she can sit down and lock you down as well as terrorize the defense of her opponent. She end the game with 21 points and 10+ rebounds, she was also elected to the All-Tournament Team.
2020, 5’9, SG, Alexis Pulido – She is the catalyst when it comes to the team, she is glue that keeps it together, she is a fierce competitor and also one of the nicest girls on the squad. She knocks down three pointers, hits the midrange from the free throw line in the zone and can also get to the rim. Her specialty is shooting the ball and she did that in this tournament, giving her the honor of being the MVP of the tournament for her division.
2021. 5’7, PG Anyssa Baker – Is that crafty lefty with the ability to knock down the three pointer or get to the rim and finish thru contact. She is defensive gifted as well, but she is more of a dog on the offensive side of the floor with her pull midrange jumper, her long ball three pointer and it all happens from a pretty leftly high arching shot, that is nothing but net. She ended the game with 9 points in the win, also received the All-Tournament Honors.
2021, 5’10, PF, Jaelin Acker – Is the enforcer in the paint, she is a double-double waiting to happen, she will get you points off the boards on the offensive side of the floor or block shots on the defensive end. She runs the floor and catches with soft hands and is able to finish the layup with ease over her opponents thru contact or not. She ended the game with 10 points and 10+ rebounds.
Top Performers – St. Marys (Canada) HS:
2021 – Donna Borja was a small scrappy guard that ran her team and really could get to the basket with her herky-jerky ball handling skills, she kept the defenses honest and it was a problem to keep her out of the paint. She ended the game with 6 points.
2021 – Tyella Amankwah is a skilled combo guard in our opinion, she had a good stroke from outside, she knocked down a few 17 footers in the game and showed us her shooting ability. She ended the game with 6 points as well.
2020 – Carley Smigel is a small forward with some basketball skills, she was able to make a few shots from the field and also lend her team with some solid defense in this game. She ended the game with 7 points.
2020 – Bella Mesquita was another guard who helped the team stay in this game with some key baskets that would put the team in close with Dominguez on the night. She ended the game with 5 points.
