Several players shined this week at the Huhtamki Classic hosted by DeSoto High School. The tournament featured Olathe Northwest, DeSoto, Shawnee Mission West, Olathe North, Truman, Gardner-Edgerton, Blue Valley Southwest and Mill Valley on the Kansas side, and Truman on the Missouri side.
Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several forwards who impressed this week in DeSoto.
35 — Ashlynn Alloway, 5’10, F, 2022, Olathe North
Alloway is one of several talented players on the Eagles’ roster and she is seemingly all over the court at the defensive end, able to defend big post player, move her feet on the perimeter and works hard on the boards. Offensively, the Eagles run their offense through others, but she makes the most of her opportunities. Alloway moves well without the ball and can score in transition as she fills the lanes well.
3 — Taedyn Gray, 6’3, F, 2022, Shawnee Mission West
Gray is a player poised to make big waves on the hardwood this season and on the recruiting trail in the future. She has all the physical attributes college programs look for with terrific size and athleticism and a motor that doesn’t stop. She has a long wing span, holds her ground well defensively and has the ability to challenge shots without fouling at the defensive end of the court. Gray is a strong finisher around the basket and gets on the offensive glass, giving her team second chance opportunities.
24 — LeLe Love, 6’2, F, 2020, Olathe North
Love has the kind of frame, size and athleticism that high major basketball programs look for with a long, lean frame and the ability to run and jump at an elite level. She is a versatile defender with exceptionally quick feet for a 6’2 player and can smother a guard or defend in the paint. Offensively, she is tough posting up where she has a wide array of impressive moves including a nice faraway jumper. Love runs the floor exceptionally well and has a nice feel for passing the ball with terrific court vision.
15 — Mia Vallery, 6’0, F, 2020, Gardner-Edgerton
Vallery is a tough, physical player who brings a hard work attitude to both ends of the court. She can shoot out to 15 feet, runs the floor well and plays tough, physical defense. Vallery had some good moments throughout the tournament despite the Trailblazers struggles and showed she can be counted on for production in the paint.
