The All Tourney team consisted of:
MVP Clare Breden Jerseyville
Chloe White Jerseyville
Abby Manns Jerseyville
Adrenna Snipes Alton Marquette
Abby Williams Alton Marquette
Ava Uhles Carrollton
Libby Mueth Carrollton
Samya Johnson McCluer North
Kierra Sutton McCluer North
Alyssa Powell Triad
Haylee Sagle Taylorville
Jerseyville was an offensive machine in this tourney. The scored 72,79,63 and 59 points in their 4 games. The scoring was very balanced and they are hard to stop. The players have bought into the system and are comfortable in their role. The bench players are ready to go when they are called upon and will deliver.Alton Marquette did not give up and made it at least a respectable final score but the game was never in doubt in the 4th quarter.
Clare Breden was named MVP of the tourney and did an excellent job in controlling the point guard duties and getting to the basket. She has always been known to be able to shoot the 3, but Clare continues to improve her game off the bounce. She handles it well and is very quick. She finishes well with both hands and can use the floater/runner as a weapon.
Abby Manns and Chloe White have been huge for Jerseyville in their first half of the season. White had 21 points in the opening game against Taylorville and Manns was consistent the rest of the way. White is a 2022 5’9 wing that has some power to her game. She can get downhill and finish through contact, often creating the contact herself. She is a good shooter but is best in the lane at this point. Manns has really stepped up her game in her senior year. She has already made twice as many three’s as she did all of last year. In addition she is shooting 75% from the line as compared to 60% last year. She has been the second leading scorer and at times, like in the championship game, she will take the lead and take pressure off Breden. Abby had 8 points in the first quarter and got the team rolling with her effort.
Adrenna Snipes and Abby Williams have put together a very formidable 2022 duo for Alton Marquette. Snipes continues to show her ability to beat people off the dribble. When she can get in the open floor she is almost impossible to stop. She can finish around the rim using her moves and jumping ability to get clean looks. Williams is a name not many were familiar with prior to this year. She did start as a freshman, but was more of a defender and rebounder. This year Abby has put together the hard work and ability that was there to really step out to another level. She had 19 in the championship game, including 17 in the second half. She is excellent at getting into the lane and can finish through defenders with her strength. Abby is still developing her game so her best is yet to come.
Ava Uhles and Libby Mueth also form a nice duo at Carrollton. Mueth is a senior guard that can score in a variety of ways while also being the lead guard. She has a nice mid range game off the dribble. Uhles is a stretch 5 that has size and can play inside, but really seems to love the 3 pointer. She can get hot and put up 2-3 threes before the opponent can even adjust.
Samya Johnson and Kierra Sutton are both very athletic wing players for McCluer North that can play very well in the open court game. Samya has excellent skill and will take smaller guards inside and beat them in the post. The McCluer North team did not seem to be at their best but does look to have some potential to defend and run at a high level.
Haylee Sagle and Alyssa Powell both have great responsibility for their teams. They are the top scorers for teams that do not have as many options as they did a year ago. Taylorville and Triad both graduated classes that provided much of the scoring last year. This puts both players in a situation to take on the task of scoring each night. Sagle had a huge 30 point game against Jerseyville and has a smooth game. She can score at all 3 levels as a big wing. Powell is an undersized athletic post that has a non stop motor that allows her to get hustle points in addition to using to her quickness against bigger posts.
Congratulations to all the teams. The order of finish was :
- Jerseyville
- Alton Marquette
- Carrollton
- McCluer North
- Triad
- Taylorville
- Calhoun
- Alton
This is always a fun event that is well run, I look forward to 2020.
