She was a playmaker on both sides of the ball, which is why I’m awarding her with the inaugural Britt’s Baller of the Game award.
Offensively, Willis had 17 points in the victory over St. Mary’s. She hit all seven free throw shots she put up and also was pretty accurate with her other shot selections on the night. Not only did she put points on the board, but she also helped her teammates too, passing the ball and getting a few assists in there too.

Defensively, Willis played like a beast on the court. While she may be on the smaller side for basketball players, she showed that it doesn’t stop her from being fast or aggressive, as she wasn’t scared to get in and force either a deflection or a turnover. Willis played in-your-face defense all night without ever letting up.
Willis said her motivation for playing so hard is her desire to make it to state and win it all. Last year as a freshman on the squad, she suffered a knee injury, sidelining her for the team’s playoff run and state championship game.
“I just came ready. I prepared by just, all day, doing me. I’m in my zone all the time and I just come ready to play,” Willis said. “Honestly, I’m just ready to win state. It really hurt last year not being able to play, and this year I’m just coming, I’m just trying to being a leader and I’m trying to get my team to go to state.”
Coach Karen Self talked about why Willis is such an integral part of the team and why she will be crucial in the team’s hunt for another state championship appearance.
“She brings so much intensity and energy to the court and she really kind of leads us defensively and helps elevate that play. You put that much pressure on the ball handler off top, it makes it a whole lot easier for the other kids on the backside of that. We just ask our kids to pressure the ball as much as they can, and she really set the tone for that,” Coach Self said.
Willis and the Sentinels will be on the road looking for their second win of the season on Thursday, December 5th when they face the Cactus Cobras at 7 p.m.
