The tournament was held at Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC. The Olympic and “She Got Game Classic” staff that supervised the event were great! Legacy Early College won the game 50-42 led by seniors Randria Anderson(7 points), Akylah Eldridge(16 points) and Laimani Simmons(18 points). However, there was an 8th grader that will be one to watch in the future. Her name is Trinity Vance!

Ball Handling/Scoring
Trinity Vance is an 8th grader with tremendous potential. When I read that she was in the class of 2024, I immediately thought, a future star! I don’t normally proclaim that right off the bat, so when I do, it means something! In watching Trinity what I noticed right away was her ability to handle the ball. Trinity at 5’7 can create separation with cross-over moves and first-step quickness. In doing so Trinity can create her shot either to the basket or from the perimeter. On a team that has outstanding guards that are attending D-1 schools next year, she was one of the primary ball handlers which is very impressive. Legacy coach Latrese Davis is not afraid to put her in the mix against strong competition. Sometimes coaches like to protect a young player and guide them along slowly. Well, in this case, that is not the case! That also speaks volumes about the trust Trinity has earned by her play from her coaches. That type of experience is only going to make Trinity better in all areas of her game.
Poise Against Hopewell, Trinity faced off against junior Naveah Caldwell who is one of the best guards in NC. Naveah stepped up to the challenge to defend Trinity. Naveah didn’t make it easy for Trinity on either end of the court but Trinity, again an 8th grader, didn’t back down. I liked how she kept her poise in situations where she tried to penetrate and it wasn’t there. She didn’t force the issue or make numerous mistakes. When her coaches were giving her feedback or guidance, she didn’t display a negative attitude or any dismay. Trinity took the advice from her coaches and stayed positive. I loved the fact that she stayed in the moment and embraced the challenge from Hopewell. In the end, her team won and she was a contributing factor.
Throughout the rest of this season, Trinity is going to get better and gain more experience. She will continue to get stronger and build her basketball IQ. Trinity will be a major factor in the success of Legacy Early College this year and years to come. I predict that she will be a top-ranked player in South Carolina. Please keep an eye on Trinity Vance as she has the potential to be special!
