It was a game that came down to the final few minutes, when Riverdale Baptist was eventually able to pull away with the 49-44 win.
The first quarter of the game was rough for both Millennium and Riverdale Baptist, as the shots just weren’t falling for either of them. At the end of the 1st, Millennium had a 9-4 lead, but the game started to heat up in the second. Senior Elizabeth Martino of Riverdale Baptist hit back-to-back threes to give the team some momentum, while sophomore Trayanna Crisp got things rolling for Millennium. Going into the half, Millennium held a 27-20 lead.
Riverdale Baptist did a great job of making some adjustments at halftime and came out ready to show why they are among the top. Defensively, Riverdale Baptist held Millennium to just seven points in the 3rd quarter while they were able to put up ten, making it 34-30.
The final eight minutes of the game were really where Riverdale Baptist came alive. They were able to make it a back and forth battle for the lead, with both teams playing hard on both sides of the ball. Junior Kassidy Dixon was able to sink a 3 for Millennium to give them a 42-39 lead with just over two minutes left in the game, but the team couldn’t hold on to the lead. Riverdale Baptist was able to rally and score ten min the final minutes of the game to put things away for them.
On Thursday, Millennium will have another tough test when they play Grandview of Colorado, while Riverdale Baptist plays Long Beach Poly of California.
