POLL: PGH Kentucky Player of the Week (Week 1)
With the first week of the season in the books, we had a lot of very qualified nominees for our Player of the Week poll. We whittled the list down to the top 10 nominees. Polls are open until noon on Friday!
CAL’s Shelby Calhoun – The Cal Senior had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Moore. Followed up with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocks against Butler. 8 points, 16 rebounds and 3 assists against Whitehaven (TN) and 19 points, 20 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks in a win over Arlington (TN).
Henderson County’s Emilee Hope – On Monday, Hope had 30 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists against Apollo. Friday she went for 22 points and 6 rebounds against McCracken County then finished the week with 21 points and 6 rebounds against Vincennes Lincoln.
North Laurel’s Halle Collins – Collins is only a 7th grader but she put up 11 points and 8 rebounds against Southwestern and 27 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists against Marion County.
Owensboro Catholic’s Hannah McKay – The Murray State commit scored 21 points and grabbed 7 boards against Castle (IN) then had 26 points and 20 rebounds against Bowling Green before finishing with 15 points and 9 rebounds against Pope John Paul II (TN).
Owen County’s Carly Smith – The 8th grade point guard scored 41 points, dished 7 assists, pulled down 6 rebounds and pilfered 4 steals in 2 games for the Owls.
Madison Southern’s Sam Cornelison – The Junior from Richmond had 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals against Powell County. 12 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals against Scott County. and finished the week with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals against Somerset.
Greenwood’s Leah Trinh – Another 8th grader, Leah scored 17 points and dished 6 assists against Glasgow then had a 17 point, 7 assist game against Allen County-Scottsville.
Southern’s Kaela Ballard – The freshman from Louisville scored 31 points and grabbed 8 rebounds against Fairdale then added 17 points against Brown and 20 points against Western in a busy week.
Russell’s Shaelyn Steele – Another 8th grader, Steele hails from Russell where she put up games of 16 points and 8 rebounds against South Charleston, 13 points and 10 rebounds against Johnson Central and 25 points and 11 rebounds against West Carter.
Beth Haven’s Delanie White – The Senior had 15 points and 11 rebounds against Highlands Latin then followed that by leading Beth Haven to their first district win since 2010 when her 21 points and 18 rebounds helped Beth Haven beat Valley.
