The Class of 2023 plays with chutzpuh: blazing drives, frothy spins, and capricious defense. “In your face” might be our sub-title, to describe the aggression, passion, and acrobatics exhibited. Audacious behavior that borders on rudeness is chutzpah (rhymes with “footh spa”). These youngsters display bold skills, getting fans excited in anticipation and opponents dizzy in vain attempts to stop the onslaught. Numbers behind names indicate 8th-grade varsity performance.
1. Avery Broughton, Corsica/Stickney 6’0″ 18-ppg, 10-rpg – might become best-ever from C/S.
2. Shalayne Nagel, Avon, 5’11”, 10-pgg, 8-rpg – proven all-state level performer
3. Olivia Kieffer, RCC, 5’9″, 22-ppg – scores, competes, and defends with intensity and BB IQ.
4. Gracie Traphagen, Groton 6’0″, 8-ppg, 6-rpg – length and touch inside paint are stellar
5. Emma Yost, Parkston, 5’11”, 14-ppg, 10-rpg – runs floor and encircles as a post defender with great footwork
6. Daci LendsHisHorse, CEB, 5’5″, a jitterburg driver, defender, and difference maker for the Braves!
7. Mallory Miller, Langford 6’0″, 4-ppg, 3-rpg – young and tall with good teammates means more boards, points, and wins.
8. Kami Wadsworth, Hamlin, 5’9″. 6-ppg. 3-rpg – focused and competent from any spot (1-thru-5) on the floor
9. Jada Burke, Clark, 5’8″ 3-ppg,2-rpg – agile in low block, quick moves, and great floor vision
10(t). MacKensie Evenson, Castlewood, 5’5′, 6-ppg-3-rpg – Castlewood is loaded with all-around complete players.

Be alert and warned – the Class of 2024 holds a similar bunch of hard-chargers. Take Emilee Fox (5’9″) of MVP, or Madison Wolfe of RC Central. Go deeper to enjoy 7th graders, TyAnn Mortenson (5’10”) & Kambelle Schauer (5’3″), both of Faith HS. Isabella Anderson at Milbank goes onto the watch list, as well.
