In the first a couple of minutes of the game, it was looking like it would be one for the memory books. Six Freshmen got introduced to their first High School game of their career on this night. Two of these Fabulous Freshmen earned the start for their respective teams, Amaya Marshall, 5’4″ PG/SG, Lawrence, #13 in the class of 2023 Kansas Girls Prep Hoops Rankings and KiKi Smith, 5’7″ SG, Topeka, #31 in the class of 2023 Kansas Girls Prep Hoops Rankings. Here’s the deal, the best player on the court on this night was not a senior in my opinion. I covered this game knowing it would be an interesting matchup due to both teams roster boasting a lot of underclassmen. The Lady Lions struck first and then something happened after about 3 minutes ran off the clock, the Lady Trojans introduced to everyone watching the game to KiKi Smith!
KiKi Smith is strong, athletic, she’s quick, she’s unselfish and I’m telling you now, KiKi Smith is a Certified Baller! I don’t know if she took the rankings personal or if she wanted to remind everyone that we should love KiKi for her basketball game and that she is the 2019 Jr. NBA Championships MVP and Champion. She opened her high school career with a 21 point showing. Ms. KiKi Smith put her stamp of approval all over this game and she did so on both ends of the floor for the #1 ranked Topeka High Lady Trojans. Get your tickets, your popcorn and your beverages ready for the next time KiKi Smith laces her shoes up, it’s a must that you go see the Lady Trojans play their brand of basketball.
Amaya Marshall got the start at the point guard position for the Lady Lions against the loaded Lady Trojans. This was not an easy task for Amaya because the opposing team kept pressuring her at 94 feet and it came from at least 4 different players. Ms. Marshall handled the pressure well at numerous times throughout the game, she is a high IQ player that knows how to run a team. I love her energy and toughness she brings to the game, with all the pressure and different looks Topeka High was giving Amaya she didn’t shy away from her point guard duties. Amaya Marshall may have only scored 2 points for the game but she helped her team in all facets of the game. Keep your eye on Amaya Marshall this season, she’s a coach’s daughter that, of course, has a High Basketball IQ.
Hailey Ramirez, 5’5″ SG, came off the bench for the Lady Lions to get her first taste of high school basketball in her freshmen campaign. The way the flow of the game was in Hailey checked into the game was at a hectic pace, it did not faze her, Hailey came right in playing her role and ended the night with 6pts on 2 for 3 from the field and 1 for 1 from the line. Hailey Ramirez has some good basketball IQ, she can shoot the 3 with good range, she has nice form on her shot and she moves well on defense. Remember the name Hailey Ramirez, she will be earning more quality minutes for the Lady Lions this season. Class of 2023 Kansas Girls Prep Hoops Rankings Alert!
Serenity Keo, 5’4″ SG, came off the bench for the Lady Lions to start off her freshmen season. Keo checked into the game for LHS and went right to work. Serenity’s night ended with her going 1 for 4 from the field and 4 for 5 from the line for 6pts. You can tell right away that Keo was not intimidated by the moment when she checked in because she immediately went into attack mode. Serenity has a good basketball IQ, she can create off of the dribble to get her shot off or set up her teammates for an easy look. Marked down Serenity Keo in your notebook or wherever but just don’t forget her name. Keo will be earning some more meaningful minutes for the Lady Lions, I’m sure of that. Faith Shields, 5’8″ Guard, came into the game after sitting on the bench for most of the game and did the same thing when she got on the court, sat down on defense. Faith moves her feet very well and if she comes in and continues to play her role, she will start getting easy buckets due to her defense. Faith Shields has some nice size, good speed, and some good athleticism that fits well with the scheme of the Lady Trojans. Kansas Girls Prep Hoops Rankings Alert!
Adisyn Caryl, 5’8″ Wing, came off the bench late in the game to get the first varsity minutes of her high school career. From what I have seen Adisyn has some good basketball IQ, she came in and made some good reads on the offensive end of the floor. With some work on getting quicker and having the advantage of having an older sister(Zoe Caryl, class of 2021) on the team Adisyn Caryl will get better with time. Most of her minutes will probably be on the Junior Varsity team for the Lady Trojans. Kansas Girls Prep Hoops Rankings Alert!
