This matchup included two of the top teams in their respected regions. The home team, Mercy Jaguars, represented the 6th region and the away team, Elizabethtown Panthers, represented the 5th region. This game had a handful of D-I commits and some stellar prospects as well. The game was neck-and-neck the whole 4 Quarters but E-town led for majority of the game. E-town goes on the road and grabs a victory over Mercy, 73-64. There were some outstanding performances displayed on the court for this Thursday night matchup. Six players really stood out.
Kayra Freeman (E-town)
The Junior point guard did a little bit of everything in this game. She was spectacular. She ended the game with a game-high, 20 points. She is averaging 11.7 points through E-town’s first three games of the 2019-20 season. She is a master with the ball as she displayed amazing dribbling skills. She was able to get into the lane with her quickness and fancy spin-moves. She finished under the basket quite a bit as 16 of her 20 points came inside the paint. Very crafty with the ball. She is the perfect floor general for this very talented E-town team. Big things coming for one of the best Juniors in the state.
Hope Sivori (Mercy)
The Senior point guard can really shoot the ball. She is a major threat from behind the arc. Even though she only made two 3s, you could sense the E-town defense was trying to limit her 3-point attempts. Sivori ended the game with a team-high, 19 points. This is my second time seeing Sivori in action and she is everything you’d want in a Senior point guard. She can dribble, shoot, drive in the lane, look for the open teammate, and so on. She had some costly turnovers in the 1st Half but she recovered as she had 11 of 19 points in the 2nd Half. She is the leader for this team as she is the one with the ball in her hands the most.
Whitney Hay (E-town)
Belmont commit Whitney Hay can do it all. She ended the game with 13 points and 8 rebounds. She had two buzzer beater 3s in this game. One at the end of the 1st quarter and the other at the end of the 2nd quarter. The buzzer beater at the end of the 2nd Quarter was her last field goal of the game. She made 4 of her 4 attempts at the free throw line in the 2nd half. She has amazing size and control when she has the ball. Her shot his really pretty, she can hit from just about anywhere on the floor. In E-town’s 3 games this season, she is averaging 19.7 points and 6.0 rebounds. Big year coming for the future Belmont Bruin.
Ta’Ziah Jenks (Mercy)
West Virginia commit Ta’Ziah Jenks started off slow in this game as she only had 4 points going into halftime. She ended the game with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Stellar performance from Jenks in the 2nd half. She was in foul trouble late in the game, so she had to be less aggressive than she was being in the 3rd quarter. Jenks is long and versatile. This Mercy team is loaded with very talented Seniors and Jenks is going to produce every single night. Great foot work while driving inside and attacks the defensive/offensive glass with her length.
Sydney Clark (E-town)
The Senior forward has amazing length and was very aggressive on the offensive glass. She snatched 10 rebounds and scored 14 points giving her a double-double for the night. All of her points came under the basket. Whether it be off of offensive rebounds or being wide-open underneath. She had a great sense of what her role is for this team. Grab rebounds and be a threat defensively on the inside. She is averaging 9.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. A solid contributor to this talented E-town squad.
Paige Taylor (Mercy)
The Senior forward Paige Taylor was terrific for the Jaguars in the first half. She scored 11 of her 13 points in the 1st half. She nailed two 3s and drove the ball at will. I am not really sure what happened in the second half. It could have been excellent defense from E-town or Mercy just did not try to give her the ball. She shot the ball maybe two or three times in the second half. I think they should have gone to her way more as she was killing it in the first half. Amazing athlete and at times looked like the best player on the court for both teams. Yet another Senior for this Mercy squad as they roll really deep with Senior talent.
Recap
One of the better games I have been to because of all the amazing talent and the game was close the whole way. Witnessed some of the best players in the state in this game. Despite the loss, Mercy is the real deal. They’ll be there when it’s all said and done. One of, if not, the most talented teams in the 6th region. Mercy moves to 2-2 this season. At Assumption will be their next game on Sunday, December 15th. E-town moves to 3-0 this season. They have a lot of talent and can score in many different ways. At Barren County will be their next game on Saturday, December 14th.
