There were several good point guards but I’ve narrowed it to the next five outside of the All Showcase Team.
Telecia Taylor | 5’5 | PG | Central Macon | 2020
Taylor battled with a great competitive edge. She is a shifty guard that uses speed to get by defenders in the open court and quickness when in the half-court to get to the rim. She showed off good handles and was an offensive spark for the Lady Chargers. She is showed quick reflexes on defense which help her jump to position for a couple of steals in the game. She also placed several passes that if converted would have increased her assist totals. She added 8 points and picked up 2 steals for her Central Macon team.
Autumn PhillipsAutumn Phillips | 5’6 | PG | Langston Hughes | 2021
A small guard with a good feel at the point guard position. She has a smooth look to her game. She showed some good ball-handling and passing against a very active press from Eagles Landing. She was very efficient with her possessions and made good decisions when running the show for her team. She had good defensive intensity and really showed pride in her on-ball pressure. She had 9 points and 3 steals
Maxey shoots the mid-range jumper.D’Yanna Maxey | 5’6 | PG | Banneker | 2022
Maxey played with great confidence for the Lady Trojans. She showed good ball-handling when running the point guard position for her team. She did a good job of picking her spots offensively to score. She showed very good composure on the foul line, knocking down a pair to ice a close game against Jonesboro. She led all with 16 points. We will be tracking her in the class of 2022.
Katelyn Dunning | 5’2 | PG | Mount Paran | 2022
On most nights Dunning will be the shortest player on the court but you cannot tell her that. I have seen her a few times this season and she is tough. She has a great muscular build that helps her absorb contact at her size and keep moving. She can score the ball at every level and is a lock at the foul line. She has good control of the ball and can drop great passes at any point. Defensively she is pesky and is able to get several steals a game. She contributed 11 points and 4 steals. She will be added to the next set of rankings for the 2022 class.
Averyana Nelson | 5’4 | PG | Griffin | 2020
This senior guard went toe to toe with two very good guards on the St. Francis team. Nelson did not back down at any point. She showed a desire to win regardless of the score. She is very fast and uses her speed as a strength. She was able to beat defenders to the rim at times and adjust her layups to finish against much bigger defenders. She also knocked down a pair of threes off the bounce. She also uses her speed to chase down long rebounds and ended with 12 points and 5 rebounds against a state championship team.
