St. John’s College High School made their annual stop at the Art Turner Memorial Classic and left 1-1 dropping the first game to Westlake (GA) before bouncing back on day two to defeat Bishop Loughlin (NY). The Cadets were impressive in the victory and had multiple players step their game up while they eagerly await the return of phenom Azzi Fudd who looks like she is getting pretty close to a return.
The Cadets led the game wire to wire turning a 9-4 first quarter lead to a double digit 27-17 lead at the break. In the end it was St. John’s with the easy victory despite a late charge by Bishop Loughlin to get the game within single digits late.
Standout Players:
Delaney Thomas – 6’2″ – Wing – 2023
Delaney ThomasDelaney left with the game MVP tying for a game high 14 points. She showed a good touch in the mid range and the ability to create contact and get to the line attempting eight free throws in the first half. The freshman has a nice body and good size and looks like she will be a big part of the future of SJC.
Gianni Boone – 5’11” – Wing – 2022
Giani BooneGianni has a great motor and plays with high energy. Her quickness and length allows her to slice the lane and get to the basket to finish. She scored 6 points in a two minute stretch that showed mostly every aspect of her game. She is very active on the defensive end and plays the passing lanes well.
Taylor Napper – 6’0″ – Post – 2021
Taylor NapperTaylor controlled the paint logging a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. She came up huge in the fourth quarter as scoring eight in the period as Bishop Loughlin look to make their run. She has a nice touch around the basket and showed some nifty footwork with a 360 degree spin move in the lane.
Kelis Corley – 5’10” – Guard – 2020
Kelis CorleyKelis played under control giving the Cadets senior leadership. She knocked down a couple of timely three pointers finishing with 10 points for the night. She handled herself well against the press and made the right reads each time. She’s a glue player that will probably the leading scorer until Fudd returns.
