Here are a few names from different teams of kids we thought were pretty good as we watched from the Press Row seating that was provided by the Tarkanian Classic Staff, we really appreciate the hospitality at all of the venues we visited while at the tournament. We were in three gyms with two-courts in all of them and we had a ball watching these girls teams do their thing in front of college coaches, media, family and friends.
2020, 5’11, SF, Lone Peak HS (UT), Abby Conlee – decent forward type body on this girl, uses her body well and is able to get to rim with handles and has a nice midrange game. Was very impressed with her game IQ, she was really heady and she made the right play each and every time down on the floor.
2020, 6’2, SF, American Fork (UT), Halle Nelson – She is a prototypical forward with a nice frame, able to handle the ball in traffic as well as finish in the paint after a tough offensive rebound. She can shoot the midrange and hit the an occasional three pointer that we saw. She is quick and agile and not a bad defender by know means.
2020, 6’1, CG, Dominguez HS (CA), Leigha Harris – She is a creative combo guard that can handle the point guard duties and as well guard all five positions on the floor. She is quick, long and lanky, shoots the ball well from all three levels and is the best defender to boot on either team we watch her play against.
2021, 6’1, SF, American Fork (UT), Abigail Davis – She is a long and lanky perimeter player with some skill to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, excellent rebounder down low and uses her length well. She shoots the ball well from midrange as well and it pretty crafty with her passes off the bounce.
2021, 6’3, C, Lone Peak HS (UT), Maile Hunt – Big and long rebounder and shot blocker, runs the floor and is able to finish off the glass. Used her size to capitalize in the paint, had the ability to seal her defender on the block and could finish most times. A nice young big to keep your eyes on for the next few years.
2021, 5’8, PG, American Fork (UT), Pyper Cuff – Fiesty guard with some good skill set that allows her to handle the ball in the open floor and also get buckets in the transition offense.
2021. 5’7, PG, Dominguez HS (CA), Anyssa Baker – Is that crafty lefty with the ability to knock down the three pointer or get to the rim and finish thru contact. She is defensive gifted as well, but she is more of a dog on the offensive side of the floor with her pull midrange jumper, her long ball three pointer and it all happens from a pretty leftly high arching shot, that is nothing but net.
2022, 5’11, SG, American Fork (UT), Emily Evans – Nice guard with a nice handle, shoots the ball well from the midrange and is the motor to her team on the perimeter, she showed us the best ball handling for her team. Was a master at drawing the foul and getting to the line.
2022, 5’7, SG, Dominguez HS (CA), Rae’Lani Trinity-Frost is a shooter on the perimeter with a nice stroke from the outside, she can fill it up and she hit 3 of 4 three pointers in this game to help her team win. She has nice body frame, she has a thick body type, she is strong and can run the floor and catch and shoot in transition.
2023, 5’6, PG, Cajon HS (CA), Ayana Campbell – point for the team, herky jerky handles and has a nice floater to her game. Does not turnover and her IQ is decent. She shot the ball well from midrange and could get to the rim with her crafty handles, but needs work on the three ball. If she becomes much more of a consistent three ball shooter, this kids ceiling is off the charts.
