As we enter the 2019/2020 high school basketball season in Kansas. Prep Hoops will preview some of the Kansas City Area high schools. These preview articles will give you details on key players, season expectations and more.
In this article we preview the Baldwin Lady Bulldogs. A powerhouse in class 4A, and coming off a 21-2 season in 2018-19. With a few returners and some new faces they look to have another great year.
Players To Watch
Anna Burnett, Guard, Senior, (2020)
A 5’8, duel sport athlete for Baldwin. Displays the speed and athleticism of a track star on the hardwood as well. Good fundamentally sound ball handler that uses the combination of speed and skill to get anywhere she wants on the court. She has great court vision and awareness that allows her to make plays for teammates. Good shooter from distance which gives her another good option to score. Great perimeter, on-ball defender with great lateral quickness.
Riley Smith, Guard, Sophomore, (2022)
A 5’7 guard with great quickness and intensity. Plays with great poise and maturity for a sophomore. Good ball handler, fearless in her penetration in either direction to the basket. Great defender, that pressures the full length of the court. A streaky shooter from distance but as she continues to develop look for her range to be more consistent.
Jenna Harvey, Center, Junior, (2021)
Solid interior presence for Baldwin. The 6’4 post is the true definition of a rim protector. Get’s up and down the court well for her size and is learning to create space down low with it also. Strong rebounder and will only get better as she learns to rebound outside her area. Uses both hands to finish up high. Look for her to help add another dimension to a fast-paced Bulldogs team this year.
Baldwin is also returning some other key girls such as senior’s Josie Boyle, Kelsey Swonger to name a couple, that will play a big part in them trying to continuing their reign of dominance in the Frontier League. Currently 4-0 and ranked #3 in Class 4A.
