In this article, we preview the Shawnee Mission West Lady Vikings. The Lady Vikings are under grist year head coach Mark Rabbit. West is coming off a 9-10 record a year ago and look to increase their win total in 2019-20.
Players To Watch
Kierra Prim, Guard/Forward, Senior, (2020)
A multi-sport athlete and returning starter from a year ago, Prim combines natural athleticism, speed, and strength on the hardwood. A fundamentally sound ball handler that can penetrate and finish strong through contact. An elite-level defender that out muscles smaller guards and uses quickness to defend on the interior. Is a great rebounder on both sides of the ball. Prim is coming off a junior year where she averaged 14pts, 6rbs, 2ast, 2stls. Look for her to continue to be a leader in her final season at Shawnee Mission West.
S’Mya Nichols, Guard/Forward, Freshman, (2023), Prep Hoops #2 Ranked Freshman in Kansas
The 6 foot extremely versatile Nichols, is coming into her first year of high school ball ready to contribute right away. S’Mya is a two time Junior NBA World Champ and a member of the MO Phenom EYBL 17U team. Holds abilities to play multiple positions. Has the size and strength to bang down low, yet handles, shoots and passes well at the guard spot. Good on ball defender that pressures and disrupts opposing players. Look for her to help the Lady Vikings in her freshman campaign.
Aiden Moxness, Center, Junior, (2021)
Moxness, a 6’4 post and returning starter for the Vikings. Aiden is coming off of a decent sophomore year where some injuries kept her from reaching her full potential. She’s returning in 2019-20 healthy and ready to be a force for West. Has great size inside and rebounds well around the basket. Has great mid-range jump shot and good finisher in close.
Tayden Gray, Forward, Sophomore, (2022)
The 6’3 post player has good size and skill. A physical post presence that can use both left and right hands equally to finish. Good rebounder in close as well as shoot blocker. Taedyn was among league leaders in rebounds and block a year ago. Look for her to continue to develop in her sophomore year.
With key players and other returners from a year ago such as Ashlyn Henry, CC Carter , look for Coach Rabbit and the Lady Vikings to compete in the Sunflower.
