Continue ReadingThe Cy Ranch vs Cibolo Steele game had a few takeaways including down around 20, never give up as The Mustangs came back against the Lady Knights to take the lead however they lost in overtime. Rianne Burton (Cincinnati) carried the offensive load early with Shadiya Thomas (Air Force) adding bits and pieces thought the game and what can I say about Bria McClure and Aja Holmes (TCU) combining for 13 three pointers, is that a record. I didn’t see D1 Gold champion Cy Creek, Kyndall Hunter was named MVP and Rori Harmon made All-Tournament, check the Texas Invitational website for updates. I didn’t see Deyona Gaston (Mississippi State) but I’m sure she was her dominating self. The tournament was a hit, as usual, heavy hitters were spread out and this kept some of the national guys away but I’ll make a suggestion for next season because just about everyone wants “national exposure” warranted or not
Shira PattonShira Patton-5’9 G (Cy Ranch) one of many overly used phrases of “jumps out of the gym” applies to this young lady who defies gravity with her acrobatic layup, pull-ups, and fadeaways but down the stretch, she was virtually unstoppable in the overtime game against Cibolo Steele. She has amazed me for years and will continue to do so at Northern Arizona
Alisa KnightAlisa Knight-5’9 G (Cedar Park) blends in well on a solid team and gets hers in the flow. One of the most athletic players at the event that could actually play and her first step is somewhat devastating as she elevates over defenders and finishes with contact but what I really like is the way she plays the passing lane and with her speed, that’s usually a lay-up going the other way
Da’Nae JohnsonD’Nae Johnson-5’6 G (Clear Springs) explosive on both ends, she puts in work and her energy trickles down to her teammates as she adds fuel to a talented guard-heavy team. She anticipates and defends well, throw in “plays the passing lane” and can attack the basket from anywhere on the floor. The senior also falls into that “Under The Radar” category
Sidney LoveSidney Love-5’9 G (Cibolo Steele) she’s one of the best coming off of the bench and I don’t know if they have a 6th man award, maybe people can vote, no scratch that, she would start on many squads and the more I see the talented sophomore, the more she shows. I’m partial to her first name, no matter how it’s spelled and watching her glide to the basket or just elevate over defenders is something to see
Jade GoynesJade Goynes-5’10 PF (North Crowley) she can overpower defenders inside and face the basket and hit the shot. Good rebounder on both ends of the floor, she also dives on the floor for, loose balls as well as goes after them in the stands. She brings the heat on defense, inside or baseline to baseline but she won’t let you outwork her and falls into that never takes a play-off type of player and she’s a junior
Ashlyn JonesAshlyn Jones-6’0 F (Klein Oak) one of the top juniors in the state, she is just one of those players that fills up the stat sheet, effortlessly and when you look…. Her jumper is fluid and she gets it off against anyone, mid to long, and it’s consistent yet if you guard her tightly, she can attack, hang in the air and change hands while waiting, you can’t teach some of the things she does
