5th Place Game
St. Pius St. Matthias vs. Hacienda Heights Wilson
Hacienda Heights Wilson Top Performers:
2020, 5’6, G, Kendra Ukita is a decent guard that can draw the foul on the drive, it is uncanny, but she put her head down and goes in and the ref calls it. She has a decent handle in transition, but going down hill is her best trait, because she has become really good at drawing the foul as well making the basket too. In the second half, I was able to see her shooting ability as she stood outside and made a couple of three pointers, this was good, because I wondered if she could shoot it. Great player to watch, will check to see if she continues to play in college next season. She ended the game with 17 points and was 8-9 from the freethrow line, impressive.
2021, 5’9, SF, Lialani Johnson has a decent forward type body, but cannot handle it well, she rebounds well on the defensive end of the floor, but is quite raw from what I seen from her in the game. She showed us some post skills off the rebound and her putback skills, but I hope she decides to develop a short midrange so that she will be able to play at the next level. She runs the floor well and is very strong, these traits are good for her if she develops those things I talked about. Her ceiling is quite high for her being young.
2022, 5’5, SG, Ivy Liang was the solid player of the day, she handled the rock, she shot the ball when open and even showed us some pull up game off the dribble for good shots. She was very consistent from the outside, she may have made it to the rim once of twice, but her shot was money each and every time she got a good look. Quick and strong on the floor, did not turn the ball over and we were impressed with her overall game, she will be added to our database of players next month when we publish our rankings. She ended the game with 25 points.
St. Pius St. Matthias Top Performers:
2020, 5’2, PG, Crystal Menjivar is a scrappy little guard that knows how to play the game. Handles the ball well, makes open shots and is quite good from three land. Defensive solid, but can improve at that skill. She was able to get into the teeth of the defense and run the system for her team, she constantly got paint touches and is improving at her overall game. She ended the game with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
2022, 5’5, SG, Sadye Martinez is a scrappy guard play on the floor, very aggressive on offense and is always trying to attack, shot is developing right now, but makes up for it with floaters and hard drives to the rim. Decent defender and is good on the help side and knowing the rotation. Solid youngsters on the floor. She ended the game with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.
2020, 5’6, SF, Lauren Cabrera likes to attack the rim with her unorthodox floaters that go in off the glass and is well capable of knocking down the three ball as well. She plays solid defense on the bigs against her team and is becoming smarter on the pic and roll with the guards. She ended the 6 points and 8 rebounds.
