Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several post players in the senior class who are raising their profile this season in the St. Louis area.
Jayla Kelly, 6’3, F, 2020, Parkway Central
The recent Mizzou commit has a terrific all-round skill set, showcasing flexibility as a scorer, rebounder and ball handler. Kelly has a terrific two-way game and can make a difference on both sides of the floor. Kelly has great size at 6’3 and brings athleticism to the floor in a way that can translate to the transition game and half court situations. She leads the way for Parkway Central in both scoring and rebounds as she averages 16.2 points and 13.2 rebounds per game. Kelly also averages 2.60 blocks per game.
Faith Bland, 5’10, F, 2020, Metro
A strong and athletic forward with good control and the ability to score in a variety of ways. Bland brings overall toughness to the floor and can score near the basket, from the high post and handle herself on the perimeter. Bland is averaging 21.5 points per game and is shooting 45.3 percent from the field after ten games. She’s also shooting over 66 percent from the free throw line. Bland is also terrific as a defender and shot blocker as well.
Natalie Bruns, 6’0, F, 2020, Kirkwood
Bruns is an active player who brings good movement to the floor on both ends and adds scoring ability that is difficult for opponents to contain. She’s aggressive with the ball and can handle it well for her position and shows strength and good finishing ability through contact. She’s averaging 17.8 points per game through five games and shoots 45 percent from the field. Bruns is terrific from the free throw line, shooting 85 percent (17-20). Bruns also averages seven rebounds a game and nearly two blocks and two steaks per game.
Liz Behan, 6’2, C, 2020, Fort Zumwalt East
An impressive post prospect who has good size, footwork and playmaking ability near the basket. Behan is listed at 6’2, and is good at putting herself in a position to score, rebound and make plays on the defensive side of the floor. She’s currently averaging 17.3 points per game and is shooting 61 percent from the field and also averages over 13 rebounds a game. She also has 21 blocks in that time and shows terrific hustle and defensive awareness.
Jordan Fredrickson, 5’10, F, 2020, Principia
An underrated player in the area who is making a splash as the main scoring option for Principia. After six games played Fredrickson is averaging an impressive 21.5 points per game and shooting close to 70 percent from the free throw line. She’s also a terrific rebounder and shows hustle on both ends of the floor. Fredrickson is averaging over 13 rebounds per game.
