Last Tuesday evening I received a message from one of my spies who was in the gym watching Benilde-St. Margaret’s open its season against St. Anthony Village. “Olivia Olson, 8th grade point guard for Benilde,” it read. “Wow! She’s the best player on that team. Is she on the radar? She has to be one of the top 8th graders.” Yes my friend, Miss Olson is on the radar. This weekend at the Twin Cities Thanksgiving Tipoff Olivia’s radar blip was big enough to cover most of the screen. When the first ranking of the Prep Girls Hoops class of 2024 prospects is released 10 months from now she will no doubt be near the north end of the list.

If you watch Olson play there are several things that jump out at you immediately. One is her length. At about 6 feet tall with a huge wingspan, Olivia definitely passes the eye test. Think Cassidy Carson of Eastview if you are trying to visualize. The second thing is how smoothly she runs. Some players just look so natural going up and down the floor.
