This is my next to the last segment from the event, the last will be about those who just left me speechless at times, in a good way
Blake PhillipsBlake Matthews-G (Atascocita) she handes the ball well, sees the floor and did something that really impressed me, was vocal on the court. Her athleticism showed in numerous ways, she defends well and creates her shot under pressure but her range definitely was an eye-opener
Sian Phipps-6’3 F (Cy Springs) that old saying “you can’t teach size” means absolutely nothing if you can’t play and the more I see Phillips, the more she shows me that she can play. Strong body and uses it well, does not shy away from contact on either end and finishes strongly as well as rebounds
Amanda CrowninshieldAmanda Crowninshield-PG (Bridgeland) prototype point guards are not as abundant as they were in the “good ole days” however when you find one, especially one like this, you need to take notice. Pass first, thinks the game and understands how to run a team by directing traffic. If she needs to take over, she can, huge upside
Kenna Gibson-5’6 G (Clear Springs) I’m ready to label her as one of the best long ball shooters in the state, the area is a lock but she can get going and drop 4 or 5 in a row while being contested. Her ability to mix it up for the midrange or layup continues to be great additions in her offensive toolbox
JJ SmaltzJJ Schmaltz-6’1 F (Clear Creek) when I first saw her I’m thinking I rarely miss players over the magic number yet her high school coach, Kristi Odom, informed that she was a move in which fits nicely. Her “moves in” the paint are solid, she has nice form on her shot facing the basket and she rebounds and runs the floor
Samora Watson
Samora Watson-5’6 G (Clear Falls) another talented player with a deceptive first step that can leave defenders standing. I’ve observed her multiple times this season in different settings, that pull-up creates some problems but her energy level stays the same throughout the game, on both ends
R’Mani TaylorR’Mani Taylor-5’8 G (Shadow Creek) I called her a #D1Lock watching her dribble in the 4th grade, who does that, ME and of course, I was right. When you’ve been doing this as long as I have and know what you’re looking at, maturity, strength, and growth will all fall into place. I didn’t say she would be dropping 30 footers, that’s on her but she runs the team and handles the pressure
