Here is a look at the 10 Best from the MICDS-Lutheran North game.
Best Senior: Jessica Brooks (MICDS) – The 5’10 senior forward scored a team high 14 points and sank the game winner at the buzzer. She can score in the post, but she can also make plays on the perimeter as she is a more than willing passer.
Best Junior: Cynaa Coleman (Lutheran North): The versatile 5’10 forward did an excellent job scoring and handling the ball and being creative. She also had several steals on defense.
Best Sophomore: Zaire Harrell (MICDS): The 5’8″ 2022 point guard is a physically gifted athlete who loves to perform in the open court. She has excellent speed, which she loves to use when she goes on her coast to coast drives to the basket.
Best Freshman: Kayla Sullivan (Lutheran North) and Binta Fall (MICDS): The two 2023 forwards both enjoyed excellent games as they found a lot of success in the low post. The 5’10” Sullivan was strong inside with the ability to score with both hands around the basket. She can also score off the dribble. The 5’9″ Fall was equally effective as she scored 14 points while displaying some nice moves and footwork in the post and from the perimeter.
Best Shooter: Alden Small (MICDS): The 5’9 wing hit a pair of Corner 3-pointers and also a 15-footer off the dribble. Her 3-pointer with 48 seconds left tied the score at 39-39 and set up the Rams for victory.
Best Reserve: Cnyaa Coleman (Lutheran North): The 5’10” junior came in and impacted the game at both end of the court. She has good size with good ball handles and the ability to get into the lane.
Best Slasher: Taleah Dilworth (Lutheran North): The 5’10” 2021 guard is an excellent ball handler who was able to get to the basket with her quick first step and ability to change speeds and keep defenders off balance.
Best Disruptor: Cnyaa Coleman (Lutheran North): In addition to her ability to handle the ball and make plays, Coleman came in and became a force on the defensive end as she had four steals to help turn up the Crusaders’ full court pressure up a notch.
Best Athlete: Zaire Harrell (MICDS): See above. The speed and athleticism to play at a high tempo.
Best Shot of the Night: Jessica Brooks (MICDS): Brooks provided the dramatic ending as she chased down an errant pass and threw up a 3-pointer from in front of her bench that swished through the net as time expired to give the Rams the heart-stopping victory.
