I opened up the updated 2020 rankings with players who had moved up in the Top 20, Asha Thompson (Desoto) Aja Holmes (Cibolo Steele) and Elyssa Coleman (Atascocita) after I caught multiple looks after the club basketball season, unlike the masses, I can’t call it something it isn’t but I can call talent, I’ve done it al century and I just love to see players add more to their games so here are some others that have escalated into the Top 30
Paetynn GrayPaetynn Gray-6’2 F (Cedar Ridge) when you’re at 6’0, I call that the magic number because weeks before the college season starts, I always get calls for players who are that size, it has happened countless times and the countless times I’ve watched Gray, I just could see she had been working. The Cal-State Northridge left me speechless playing the passing lane during the last week of the club season but her NBA range threes in the Katy ISD Tournament, not to mention finishing strong, defending and rebounding elevated her to Top 25
Tyler Jackson-5’7 G (Allen) already signed with Louisiana Tech, she’s still showing why from a number of angles. She’s always been a player that just got after it and did things that might not show up on a scoresheet yet they helped her teams on a variety of levels win games. Over the years, she’s been filling up that scoresheet, mid to long, off the dribble, putbacks in the paint but her poise has just gone through the roof as she can take over at the drop of a dime, she does that too, drop dimes, or just get hers in the flow
Tierney ColemanTierney Coleman-5’10 G ( Trinity Christian) the first time I saw this young lady play I just knew that several things would fall into place, let’s revisit what I said. Nothing like a roster and a search bar but on top of her ability on the court, certain intangibles also played in part in what I knew she’d become. Her range has gotten deeper, she loves to play the passing lane and with her speed, that’s a basket going the other way and I’m pretty sure she’ll make the transition at Oral Roberts quickly
Tamia Jones
Tamia Jones-5’7 PG (The Colony) the game starts at the one and she definitely showed me a different element at the Spring Creek MISD Invitational. Yeah, she can score, mid to long-range and off the dribble, not to mention defend baseline to baseline and that includes playing the passing lane, all of that I knew. Her ability to control the tempo combined with ballhandling and making the right pass, both under pressure, has the SMU signee JEFFERSONIZED and that’s Movin On Up
Tia Harvey-5’9 G (Sasche) the Sandra Meadows Classic gave me a good look at her improvements and the Arkansas Little Rock signee has definitely polished her game. She powers her way to the basket and finishes strongly after contact but creating off of the dribble for the jumper, rebounding and igniting the break as well as her defense are all shining brightly
Morgan HillMorgan Hill-6’1 F (Cy Creek) she plays with one of the best junior backcourts in the universe, Rori Harmon and Kyndall Hunter and their team is on a mission to not only return to state, as they did the season before last but to win it and Hill’s improvement is playing a big part. She’s long, athletic, defends and can rebound, all of this was there when she signed with Louisiana Monroe yet her offense opens up more opportunities for that high octane backcourt
