Some players were already in the Top 25, in fact, Top 10 so here we go
Sa’Myah Smith
Sa’Myah Smith 6’4 P (Desoto) she wears the right number because she has jumped into the #5 as easily as she jumps for baskets on the inbounds alley-oops. I love her versatility as she scores effortlessly in the paint yet can put it on the floor and attack from the wing as well as face the basket. Her upside is scary, she’s long and athletic with long strides as she gets down the floor to finish the break she ignited after a rebound but her desire and, here we go, mindset is just something to see
Carleigh Wenzel
Carleigh Wenzel-5’11 G (San Antonio O’Connor) I don’t even have to see her again because that picture-perfect jumper(s) are forever embedded in my head and when it comes to shooting the ball from everywhere, she’s one of the tops in the state, at any class right now. More than anything, her desire to get better is showing as she’s constantly in the gym and college coaches are coming from miles away to see what I’ve been saying for a very long time
Amina Muhammad
Amina Muhammad-6’4 P (Desoto) I will never forget the first time I saw her, she had to be in the 5th or 6th grade and that “length and athleticism” told me she was going to be a player. She was coordinated and she absorbed instructions and fast forward to now, she’s a LEGITIMATE BCS prospect. That timing, she almost knocked my hot dog over with a ferocious block but she’s scoring, rebounding and defending
Jiya Perry
Michayla Gatewood-5’5 G (Desoto) the game starts at the one, always remember that and I’m not sure when Gatewood will be back but she’s a Top 10 regardless. Her guard teammates, Ja’Mia Harris and Jiya Perry both left lasting impressions at the Sandra Meadows Classic. Harris is explosive off the dribble and scores almost at will while Perry kept impressing me with that midrange pull-up and her rebounding, not to forget something I love, she follows her shot
Tionna Herron
Tionna Herron-6’5 P (Desoto) she and Lady Eagles Ayanna Thompson have high ceilings, they’re already D1 players and they keep elevating on where they’ll be heading. Herron’s length and agility have always been there but she reacts on defense, scores consistently on offense and rebounds while Thompson just creates her shot to olay “pick-em” on where she’ll let it go or just for fun. she’ll attack and finish after the lick
Maya Linton
Maya Linton-5’10 F (Timber Creek) that MT Rice event catapulted her into the Top 20, I enjoy watching her play because she has that “you won’t outwork me attitude” and she keels coming at you. I keep saying desire is something you can’t teach, she can be overpowering in the paint, offensively and defensively or step out and score
Nya Threatt
Nya Threatt-5’7 G (Dulles) she would’ve been ranked had I known she was out with an injury however, never mind, I didn’t know. What I do know is that the first I saw her before her 8th-grade season, I said this. It doesn’t me long to realize what I’m looking at and she has come back with a bang, showing a flurry of offensive skills that were already there and she’s implementing them
Sydney Love TXINV
Sydney Love-5’9 G (Cibolo Steele) I always take an extra look at players named Sydney and I definitely Love her game and after her Texas Invitational performance, okay I get it. She creates off the dribble nicely and can shoot the midrange or take defenders to the basket. She’s long, athletic and strides are long as she gets from point A to wherever but as good she is now, that upside is definitely scary
Laila McCleod
Laila McCleod-5’10 F (Duncanville) caught her at an event I used to cover back in 2017 and I said “I don’t know if she realizes how good she is now but when it clicks, she’s going to be hard to handle” and after her Sandra Meadows Classic performance, I think she knows. She brings the heat on both ends, not one of the main options on offense, they have scorers galore, yet she gets hers in the flow which is effective
