Coppell and Prosper have quietly produced quality college prospects for years. This year is much like the other as both teams flooded the courts with talent. The eight young ball players made a big impression.
Megan O’Neil is your ace on the hole when it comes to three-point shooting. O’Neil made three shots from deep on the night, two were connected after she executed perfect footwork around flare screens.
Chloe Hassman held her own against D-1 signee Maddie Cleary. Hassman a junior for Coppell uses her length to benefits her on both sides of the ball. The extra reach allows her to finish in the paint against taller players. The pet pull up jumper she uses in the mid-range connects at a high rate.
Reagan Engler has big-time player potential. The 6 footer moves well on defense while having the physical tools to turn into a do it all hustle player.
Sophomore India Howard is rough around the edges but has the physical tools to excel. She’s Coppell’s second 6 foot underclassmen with the strength and coordination to earn minutes on a talented roster. When you calculate Howard’s length into her frame, it’s hard not to see how she could develop over the next two years.
Nicole Obialo surprised me in my first time watching her play. Obialo plays a high energy game thanks to her athleticism and aggressive nature on the court. That package leads to a tireless defender who has a chance to be a streaky shooter knocking down her only three-point attempt.
Buy your stock in Waverly Hassman before it too late! The freshman is clearly used to playing older competition I.e. her older sister Chloe. The handle and ability to drive are advanced for someone her age. Making smart decisions already seem to be her forte as she balances facilitating and scoring well. She’s attentive on defense leaving little room for error. In limited attempts, Hassman’s outside shot looks good.
Prosper’s Maddie Cleary looks like the Division 1 player she’ll be this fall at UNT. She has prototypical guard size with a great feel for the game. She scores off the dribble, the catch, and facilitates.
Chandler Browning was one of the best overall players in a loaded matchup. She competes on both ends with good practices. She doesn’t rush the offense, she’s under control with the suddenness to catch defenders off balance. She’s a vocal guard with the handle and shooting to make a career at the next level.
