Hugoton 2023 Sumaya Adigan gets into defensive position at the 2020 Sterling Invitational. Photo by Robert Kelly.#26, 2023, Sumaya Adigan, Hugoton, 5’8″, WKE/Gameball Basketball – Adigan played multiple positions and just did whatever it tooks to help her team win. She played hard, rebounds well, and has a high basketball IQ. Adigan showed an ability to make open shots, put the ball on the floor, and cause problems due to mismatches.

Photo by Robert Kelly.NR, 2023, Ryland Hawkinson, Elyria Christian, 5’8″ – Hawkinson was active around the basket to rebound and score. Her ability to overpower opponents to get a rebound clearly showed strength. With good length she will one to watch develop in the years ahead. Hawkinson will be one to watch gain confidence as a ball handler and expand her scoring abilities to the ark and beyond in the year ahead.
#83, 2022, Bennie Horsch, Sterling, 5’10” – A year ago Horsch was a back-up on a deep team in 2019. No more. She has size, athleticism, can play multiple positions, can shoot the three and score in other ways. Still a raw talent in ways but as she gains polish and strength her game will continue to develop.

Photo by Robert Kelly.#28, 2021, Kayla Morris, Sterling, 5’10”, SC Dream – 12.14.19 – Morris was Heart of America League second team a year ago and mad the [Cheney] Cardinal Classic all tournament team earlier this season. She is fast in transition, can go end-to-end off the rebound, and can run the point if needed. She has some ability to play inside as well with particularly strengths in posting up and rebounding on both ends.

Photo by Robert Kelly.NR, 2020, Jill Stephens, Colby, 5’8″ – Stephens was averaging 11.7 points per game on 49.3% field goal percentage through the first seven games of the season. She also was shooting 87% from free throw. Stephens’ solid handles almost go unnoticed because of her ability to compete on the offensive glass and shoot from the perimeter. She often plays forward position due to the lack of size on the team. Recently she made the 2020 Orange & Black all-tournament team.
#14, 2020, Emily Weathers, Scott City, 5’10”, Ohlde Elite – The Emporia State University commit is clear leader on the team. Weathers has terrific handles, good strength, and… as I’ve written about her before…can score on anybody. What often goes unnoticed is her defense. She often draws the opposing team’s best player to defend. A year ago Weathers was a Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 3A honorable mention all-state and Great West Activities Conference first team selection. Weathers also was selected to the 2020 Orange & Black all-tournament team.
